Very nice place for tourists. Flowers show is amazing, Hanuman toak is very good and peaceful place, kanchanjanga waterfall is very good and memorable, but the most beautiful place is tosmon lake. I would like to come again at here with my family. Tashi view point is that place from we can view all the city.

"Nice place to visit again"

Gangtok is good place to be with family. Felt relaxed. This was my second trip. City sight seeing is worth . Monastery, flower exhibition, mg road etc. Even other places like tsongo lake, Baba mandir is good. Enjoyed playing in snow while visiting Baba mandir. Kanchanjunga view from hotel was the best part of the trip. Only drawback is taxis are bit costlier. People are good. Overall enjoyed the trip and will visit here again.

"Gangtok should be in everyones Travel List."

Scenic beauty, Clean city, Organic food, Disciplined traffic, Beautifull Temples, Good People behaviour these are some of the outcomes of the tour from Gangtok or Sikkimese villages for any travellers.

Gangtok is 120 Kms from New Jalpaiguri Railway station. And connected only thru roadway currently and takes around 4 to 6hrs travel. Broad guage railway line is being built Upto Rangpo now in 1st phase and will extend Upto Gangtok in 2nd phase probably by 2021.

Shared Taxi / Sumo are available and cost just Rs.350 per seat. Personalized taxi will cost you anything around Rs.3500 to 4500 one side trip from Siliguri / New Jalpaiguri.

From Darjeeling it will take around 4 to 5 hrs for nearly 100km route. Shared Taxi will cost Rs.250 per seat and personal vehicle will cost around Rs.3000.

All types of budget hotels to high end hotels are available in Gangtok and other places in Sikkim. Resorts are fewer. Costing around Rs.2500 for good budget hotels. And Rs.4500 to 8000 for good 3 to 4 star hotels. These are average Rates around the year. You will face traffic jams in morning and evening hours. So early travel is recommended in city areas.

Religious tour are mostly in South and East Sikkim. Adventure tour can be taken in North and West Sikkim. Or if just for Relaxing, Gangtok provides all.
In snowy areas NathuLa pass, Lachen - Lachung - rented Jackets, Gumboots are available.
Minimumt 3 nights stay is recommended. Whole of Sikkim tour will take minimum 7 nights.

Guided tour and packages are available in most hotels and in other market places. Do checkout the fixed rates for travelling tourists spots thru Taxis. Package tours are expensive. If possible, share the vehicle with others for tours. The hotel people or Driver can arrange for it.

The MG Market is the main market location in Gangtok. Not big but yet most of the upmarket things are available. Other market like Lal Bazar and Kanchenjunga shopping plaza for daily essential are nearby to MG Market.

The view of Mount Kanchenjunga (only top peak part) is visible from most of the Gangtok city region.

Good restaurants and bakery shops are available. Try Snow Lion Restaurant at Hotel Tibet little ahead of MG Market near SNT bus stand. Awesome Authentic Tibetan and local cuisine. Including some north Indian dishes too. Most of the dishes were near perfect for what it should be. But be there earliest by 8.30pm. Dragon Wok for Chinese food and OSM for North Indian food, Tashi Dalek - The Square with Open Air Restaurant in MG Road are good options for food. Baker's Cafe and Baking Magic at MG Road were good for Cakes and milkshakes. Worth trying it.
The food costs are like any other city in the country.

The market closes by 9pm.

Gangtok will surely leave good impact on you.

"Heaven of the east"

I along with my family (wife and two kids) visited Gangtok, Namchi, Darjeeling and Kalimpong from 2nd April to 8 April. It was one of the most memorable visit of my life. Though I have traveled almost India but this was really unique. The nature at its best supplemented with awesome people make it most memorable . Before travelling I was busy so could not make any pre-visit preparation and was very apprehensive about visit as was travelling with small kids. Fortunately I got a drivers Mob. No (Anmol-08101216161) referred by some traveler while writing his review. I just spoken to him over Mobile and he assured me a hassle free visit. After pick up from Bagdogra Airport to dropping back he became as my family member and resolved all the issue professionally with full credibility and keeping my interest at top. I would recommend at least consult over Mobile if you are in doubt. He himself is your driver guide and a well wisher who will become your family member at last . Apart from sikkim I found Namchi and Ravangla the best. Temi Tea Garden, Lamhatta and Mirik were the best. My suggestion is if you are coming to Sikkim please incude Kalimpong also in your list. Darjeeling disappointed me a lot and I shifted same day back to Kalimpong and the idea was not bad. Please ensure carrying woolens for Nathula visit as weather their is highly not predictable. Though you get sufficient required clothing's on hire. Nathula/ China Border is close on Monday and Tuesday please also keep in mind while planning your journey. One more thing try to stay away from MG Marg if you are not much interested in shopping. Would also like to suggest that please reach Bagdogra Airport while returning well in advance as it takes very much time in security clearance.

"Lovely stay"

Gangtok as hilly reagion is good for stay. Weather is pretty good in the month of may as average temp remains between 16-18 degrees. Only draw back was in the month of may-june rainy season starts and spoils your day but rain is not regular. Nathula and jhaungr lake is pretty good covered with snow and temp remains below minsu degree. Overall experience was really good. Good destination for couples and families tour. Rental cars are bit expensive at those places. People are really good there they respect their tourists and doesn't cheat them. Hotel experience was also good they also treat their tourist with all their best of services. If you have visited Darjeeling then you will find very similar to Gangtok.
