Best time is October to February. Climate is good. The places to visit are: (1) Vishnupur, terracotta temples, (2) Shantiniketan, (3) Kalighat (4) Dakshineswar. For a days trip you can go to Dighs the beach. Many more places to go and see around Kolkata.

"The best part of the trip was going to the river Hooghly, boating with my grandmother, and lunch on" new review

Kolkata is a place for people who like to experience the slow and subtle way of life. One should be prepared for rains. One should be equipped with light jackets and cotton clothes. It is humid. Also, Park Street is a must see.

"Yound or old, energetic or not, City of Joy has got the lot."

  • Posted 1 month ago
You can't visit Kolkata without paying homage to two of the city's former residents. Mother Teresa and RabindraNath Tagore.
To really see, smell, hear and feel Kolkata, you need to hit the streets either on a walking tour. Kolkata's street life is as photogenic as it gets, with footpath barbers, chai wallahs and colourful swirling saris. A popular Kolkatan street food is the "kathi" roll: the curry of your choice wrapped in paratha, a type of flatbread. And Bengalis love sweets such as "rasogolla" "sandesh".
Travelling with a few companions is recommended. Carry sunglasses, scarves and sunscreen lotion during summer visit. Beware of the pickpockets; there are a lot of them In Kolkata.
