Went with lot of expectation but it did not fulfil my desire to know more about tea (specially after paying Rs 225 fee per head) There is a video show to tell about History of Munnar Tea plantation -and was good. There was no arrangement to visit tea garden or any guided tour to tell how tea is produced ( I have some knowledge about the process) > the person giving the lecture is more interested to do marketing for green tea and digestion system. It has a shop selling the product of the company (

The museum is worth the visit as it provides a good introduction to tea manufacturing. There is a documentary that gives details of how tea was introduced to India and how it thrived.
There is a small plant executing all the steps of how tea is manufactured.
There is a talk of how green tea is the nectar to be imbibed if one wishes to remain healthy till one's old age.
There is also a good description of how tea should be prepared.
The store in the museum seems to be a good place to buy tea and other related items.

Nice place to visit to know about how the various types of tea are prepared. Also a nice place to buy various tea related products. They have a small documentary session on the tea factory which I thought was informative.

About Kannan Devan Tea Museum
Located in the Nullatanni Estate of Munnar, Kerala, Kannan Devan Tea Museum, a first of its kind in the country was built to depict the history of this century-old tea plantation. The tea museum throws light and gives first-hand knowledge about tea processing and operations that go into the making of tea powder/dried leaves.
The tea museum houses a granite sundial made in 1913 at its entrance to greet its visitors and plays host to a 1905 tea roller, the Pelton wheel used in the power generation plant that existed in Kanniamally Estate in 1920, an iron-age burial urn dating back to the 2nd century BC, and rotor vane (old-time CTC type tea processing machine) amongst other relics. The museum also houses old time bungalow furniture, cash safe, magneto phone, an iron oven that used firewood, antique typewriters, etc.
The museum hosts a tea-tasting session with a variety of tea on display and the guides explain the nuances of tea making process in the olden days and how it has changed with the advent of modern techniques to its curious visitors.
Kannan Devan Tea Museum is located a short distance away from the hill station town of Munnar and is accessible by road. A visit to this place is informative and helps an individual understand the art with which tea is prepared.
This is the first and perhaps only TATA establishment where they fleece their customers. Don't waste your time and money. You can learn much better on YouTube.
