"Malvan a truely Memorable Expereince"

  • Posted Jun 21, 2012
Its an awesome destination to hang out with your family and friends.
The beaches are clean, the water is clear, the atmosphere is pleasent, the food is delicious, the air your breathe is pure.

Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Food - You get to eat the typical Malvani (veg and non-veg) food out there. Something which Metro cities like Mumbai and Pune try to bring in the taste with the Restaurant Names like Sindhudurg, Malvan or Konkan but fail by a huge margin. The actual Malvani taste you will find in the entire Sindhudurg belt. Only two words - SIMPLY DELICIOUS. One restaurant - 'Chaitanya' we visited, was real good
Sightseeing - You can visit loads of beaches like Shiroda, Yelegaar, Terekhol (on the Goa Border). Each one is better than the other. 'Sindhudurg Fort' is a must watch. Look at the architecture. Mindblowing Engineering Exxcellence. Hiring a guide is individaul decision but most of the information is written inside the fort. Then there is Kunkeshwar - Temple of Shiva and a beach. Yes and not to forget the Tarkarli backwaters.
Shopping - In season, you can buy Mangoes (if you have an eye for the Quality) and Jackfruit. You can also search for Back berries (Jambhul), carrisa corandas (karwanda). You need not buy, you will find plenty of un-owned trees bearing those nutritious fruits.

Activities & things to do: Snorkelling, Scuba Diving are some activities thatt are being carried out near the Sindhudurg Fort.
Lot of water sports are carried out at the Tarkarli Backwaters
1) Snorkelling is charged around 300/-
2) Scuba diving is charged around 1200/-
3) Launch to Tarkali backwaters is charged around - 1200/- (but it is worth)
4) Water Sport activites cost range from 150/- to 1000/-
Plus you have beaches and beaches to swim and bath in - Word of caution - The Beaches are good and safe but the water carries some sand which will get trapped in your clothes

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: From Mumbai,
If you are going by Train, catch any Goa bound Train
If you are going by a vehckle - Either take up the Road to Goa. 50 Kms before Panaji you will get a right to Malvan at Kasal OR Go to Kolhapur and then come to Malvan.
Goa Road is shorter but slow, Kolhapur Road is little longer and costlier due to Tolls but very fast
Again I am mentioning that if you do not visit Tarkarli Backwaters and see the Sindhudurg Fort, then you have not seen Malvan.
