"Mahabalipuram Visit!!!"

  • Posted Nov 12, 2011
Mahabalipuram as we all know is a historic city with relics almost everywhere providing the glimpses of their magnanimous exquisiteness really attracted me. I was engrossed looking at the sculpture and the proficiency of the artists. This was a mindboggling experience and really refreshed my memories of Ajanta & Ellora many years back.
The sea beach on the other side provides me the perfect blend of simultaneous existence of sea and hill within a vicinity of few hundred meters. This reminisce me the tour at Granda in Spain where I had driven a vehicle from the beach of Mediterranean sea to hills of Sierra Nevada.

Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Blue Elephant, Moonraker and Village Inn were most sought after restaurants near the sea beach. The sea beach along the coast of Bay of Bengal is the best attraction. Shopping experience will mention the most value for money items from the Kashmir sellers and bought starting from variegated clothing to small stone idols.

Activities & things to do: Enjoying the beach.

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Simply drive down to Mahabalipuram from Chennai along the ECR.

"Nice place to visit"

  • Posted Aug 25, 2011
Mahabalipuram is a nice tourist place which has good beach, ancient sculptures etc

Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Food is not so good as its have minimum number of hotels only. Ancient sculptures, light house and beach are places to go. Pancha Rathas is excellent plcae to watch. Its a good place for traditional things shopping. We can get lot of statues here.

Activities & things to do: I don't know about activities.

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Mahabalipuram is around 60km away from Chennai. Lot of buses are available from CMBT bus terminus. Ac buses also available.

"Mahabalipuram Visit"

Mahabalipuram is a great place to visit. It depicts rich heritage of our great country have. Butter ball is really amazing.

Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Regarding food not many North Indian varieties are vailable and the fish fry at the Mamalla beach is also not very tasty as the shopkeepers keep on using the used oil for many days. Good restaurant on the pedestial road to beach should come up with quality sea food preparations.

Activities & things to do: Going in & around Mamalla town itself is exciting. Visiting places like stone sculptures galleries will be like an ice on the cake.

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Don't go in May & June. Book the hotel on line & ask for the pick up & drop to the hotel from Chennai.

"Perfect Weekend Gateaway from Chennai"

  • Posted Jul 5, 2011
Mahabalipuram or Mamallapuram is around 65 km from Chennai and the drive down the ECR (East Coast Road) hardly takes about an hour. The place has a number of historical monuments, the Five Rathas and the Shore Temple being the most popular among them.

Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Sea food is the most sought after in this area, and there are a lot of restaurants offering those.
The places worth a 'dekko' are:

Shore Temple, and the adjoining beach,

Five Rathas (Pancha Pandava Rathas). -Has nothing to do with Pandavas though. Awesome stone carved structures, these are examples of Pallava architecture.

Krishna's Butterball-A huge ball of stone naturally seated on another rock surface..worth a sight.

Arjuna's Penance, also known as the Descent of the Ganges.

Mahishamardini Cave

Varaha Cave

Old and new light houses

Shopping- You can take back pieces of sculpture, but be sure to bargain!

Activities & things to do: We had a nice time exploring the historical carvings. For the spiritually inclined, there's a temple near Arjuna's Penance, dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The beach offers excellent options for swimming, surfing and boating, but be sure to take help of life guards.

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: In case you are staying overnight, don't move around after 10 pm as the place becomes quite sleepy like any other small Indian town.
