"Matheran is an echo place truly natural with pure oxygen."

I went to Matheran during Diwali festival. When I was at Narol at bottom It was very hot but when I reached to Matheran it was very pleasant atmosphere. We went up on horses was very good experience. You have to park your vehicles at Dastury parking than you have to go up by walking, by horse riding or in hand rickshaw. Parking is safe here crime rate near zero they have maintained. Please take horse or rickshaw from gate, rate fixed. At Matheran we stayed at horse land hotel, was very near to market. Hotel is old still well maintained. Pool was clean. The toy train was not running it was little disappointing. All echo point, lords point, sun set and sunrise point ... Good to see. Best place for honey moon.

"A walk in the clouds"

  • Posted Oct 20, 2017
Matheran is full of picturesque walks, monkeys and beautiful weather. Being a no vehicle zone one needs to either walk up to the points or take a horse. It's a great place to go to de-stress and be one with nature

"Place for peaceful retreat"

  • 6.0/7

Its around 80kms away from Mumbai. But its so peaceful and beautiful that you will feel like to stay there forever. If you want a break from your daily routine then visit Matheran. Its well connected till Neural from Mumbai local. After Neural shared Taxi will take you to the place from where either you need to trek or take horse or man pulled rickshaws till Matheran's sightseeing or hotels which is again 4kms approx. But you will be enthralled by the twist and turns on the way. Not many view points as such but on the whole nature's beauty will mesmerise you.

With google at our service we all can read about the geography and history of Maatheraan. As a visitor I can talk only about my personal experience. We were lucky that we had a an excellent place to stay, "Verandah in the forest" which made our visit memorable.
Tourists have to park their cars at Dusturi parking and take a horse (optional) and a porter( to pick your luggage) to your hotel.
All the scenic points can be walked or
(horse) ridden to. The places are no doubt scenic and after a few showers of rain the place looks gorgeously green and dark maroon.
I felt that there were not enough (any) dustbins throughout the walkway, people have thrown plastic packets and bottles everywhere which very sad. There are stalls everywhere but close before 8pm, though the market is open. The villagers are helpful and kind.
Carry a haversack, bottle of water, tissues, bandaid, detol, cap, sunscreen, torch and a mosquito repellent is a must and of course walking shoes No fancy chappals and you are good to go. Nature will accompany you everywhere, beware of monkeys and dogs. If you have 2-3 days you have covered enough Maatheraan.

"Matheran trip during Summer (May)"

  • 6.0/7
  • Posted May 26, 2017
Went to Matheran in Summer In the month of May. Thought it would be same hot as Mumbai but I was completely wrong. Matheran was cool. I was not feeling like it's summer going on. We stayed at Ashok Hotel near Sunset point. Rooms in Ashok Hotel are average but food is very good. The food is Gujarati style.
