"An expensive visit which can be avoided"

  • 3.0/7

The museum is not as big as Salar Jung museum. The entire museum can be covered in 30 minutes. The ticket is steeply priced at Rs. 80 per adult (as compared to Salar jung museum) which I believe is a bit expensive considering there are not many art collections.

It is not crowded and you do have guides who charge you Rs. 100. It is better to avoid them. Even the art collection is not well maintained especially the garments section worn by the rulers. They could have atleast washed it once in a month.

"A good Heritage Museum"

  • 5.5/7
  • Posted Mar 14, 2016
The museum consists of the artefacts collected during the rule of Mir Osman Ali Khan, the seventh Nizam of Hyderabad. The museum is located at Purani Haveli.

The main attractions are the two tiered wardrobe and the 125 year-old manually operated lift. The souvenirs and mementos presented to the Nizam are also on display.

We spent a little more than one hour at the museum. The Telangana Tourism Development Corporation's daily sightseeing package includes a visit to the museum. It is open from 10 am to 5 pm except on Fridays. The entry fee is Rs. 80 per person. The museum is not as big as the Salar Jung Museum, but it's worth visiting.

Nizam Museum is located in Purani Haveli, indeed a Home Palace of Sixth Nizam Mehboob Ali Khan, who ruled from 1869-1911. This Museum exhibits the last Nizam's (Mir Osman Ali Khan) precious and antique gifts on the occasion of His Silver Jubilee, were Presented and also previous Nizam's ward robe. Jubilee hall has many attractions, and pricey vintage car collection, all are so magnificent that one must understand that what a beautiful Era they have.

A nice historic collection of all the things used by Nizam kings in their rule. The place is very big and minimum 8 hrs are required to see all of them in the museum. From books, dress, knifes to every thing used by nizams are nicely displayed. The special attractions in the museum are central clock and natural paintings.

The Nizam’s Museum is situated within Purani Haveli, the erstwhile palace of the Nizams. Purani Haveli or Haveli Khadeem was the residence of the Nizams. It was acquired by Nizam II, Ali Khan Bahadur in 1857 and was renovated between 1803 and 1829 for his son Sikander Jah, Nizam III.

Today, Purani Haveli has been converted into a museum that showcases gifts and mementos presented to Mir Osman Ali Khan, Nizam VII, on the occasion of silver jubilee celebrations in 1936.

Some of the items exhibited at the Nizam’s Museum are glass inlay paintings of Nizam VII, gold burnished wooden throne used for the silver jubilee celebrations, gold tiffin box decorated with diamonds, gold and diamond studded daggers, a wooden writing box studded with mother of pearl, a model of Jubilee Pavilion made in gold, etc. There is also a collection of models of all landmark buildings of Hyderabad made in silver. The vintage cars displayed here are 1930 Rolls Royce, Packard and a Jaguar Mark V.
