"North Kerala Attraction"

  • 5.0/7
  • Posted Dec 16, 2017
Kasargod District in Kerala is the Northern Tip of Kerala. It is closer to Mangalore Airport in Karnataka State and from there accessible via road. If you are travelling by train, you can directly get down at Kasargod Railway Station.
2 main attractions of Kasargod are The Ananthpura Lake Temple and Baikal Fort & Beach.
Ananthpura Lake Temple is as its name suggests a beautiful temple in the middle of a lake. It is beautifully built and well maintained. Well accessible from the Main Road. Dress Code for men while entering the temple is to remove shirt which is usual across many Kerala temples. The main deity in the temple is Vishnu. The temple lake has a legend - a Crocodile named Babia who is considered guardian of this temple. Many legendary stories about this Crocodile. But we couldnt see him as the Legend comes out only as and when he wishes to. The crocodile is pure vegetarian, does not eat any of the small even tiny fishes present in the lake, comes out of its then once in a while to eat the Nivedyam (prasadam offered to Lord Vishnu) and thats it. We missed seeing the Guardian but his presence was definitely felt.
Baikal Fort and Beach are monumental destinations in Kasargod. Please do visit the Fort for its historical importance, its making, its capture and the entire history behind it. Fort is under the Archaeological Survey of India and so well maintained that you will be amazed. Preferred time is to go little before Sunset, cover the fort in the light and then enjoy the sunset from the fort as well as from the Baikal Fort Beach.
Stay options in Kasargod near to Baikal Fort is Baikal Palace (Economy Hotel), Taj Baikal and Lalit Bekal, both being luxury options.

"A nice place to visit"

  • 6.5/7

I had been to Kasargod by road in February 2016. Kasaragod is easily accessible by all the three modes of transport i.e. Road, rail and air. The nearest airport to Kasaragod is the Mangalore Airport which is at a distance of around 70 kilometers. The must-visit attractions around Kasaragod include Bekal fort, Anandashram and Adoor. Bekal fort is around 3 centuries old and spans over an area of 40 acres. Adoor has an ancient Siva temple founded by Arjuna and is located 45 kilometers east of the Kasaragod region.

"Place of beaches"

So this was more of a family visit but managed to see a lot of things around like the the gorgeous beaches, the temples and the highlight being Bekal fort. This place is definitely worth a visit if you are on your way to Kerala or Mangalore. You can take a two day break here. Since its on the border it's hardly one hour away from Mangalore.

"Beach, fort and temple"

  • 5.5/7

'Bekal Fort' is the largest fort in Kerala, situated at Kasaragod district, North Kerala. Some important features of this fort are the water-tank with its flight of steps, the tunnel opening towards the south, the magazine for keeping ammunition and the broad steps leading to the Observation Tower, which is a rarity. The Mukhyaprana Temple of Hanuman and the ancient Muslim mosque nearby fort. The zigzag entrance and the trenches around the fort show the defense strategy inherent in the fort. Sivappa Nayaka of Bednore constructed the Bekal Fort in 1650AD. The maritime importance of Bekal increased much under the Kolathiri and it became an important port town of Tulunadu and Malabar. The song 'Uyire' (Tamil) from the movie 'Bombay' directed by Mani Ratnam has been shot at Bekal Fort.

"Amazing and beautiful places will make your trip memorable"

  • 6.5/7

It was purely nature's beauty. It was an awesome experience for me and my family as whole. Kerala has many famous places to visit like Munnar, Thekkadi, Kochi and Poovar Island. The tour was organised and planned in a great way and we didn't find any problem during the whole tour.
