Catch train from Howrah station & reach at Bolepur station, within 2.5 hrs. Any body can avail auto to reach Shantiniketan Ashram. There were so many hotel & restaurant to take night stay. We have seen there was good arrangement for the tourists.

Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Over all food quality is satisfactory by cheap rate.

Activities & things to do: Any one can enjoy as he/she wish.

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: It is not far way from Kolkata. Very easily any one can reach by taking train journey.

Its a wonderful place with heritage buildings and historical events of rabindranath tagore. this place will give you a complete knowledge of tagore's biography. Knowledge about his family and his activity .

Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Food is very good anywhere.

Activities & things to do: You can relax and enjoy

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Last of december, a fair is exhibited near the ground so at this time this place is too much crowded. better dont go this time. mid of march is HOLI. this time biswabharati students perform wonderful dances and programs. this time is worth going.

"Weekend retreat"

  • 6.0/7
  • Posted Jan 22, 2013
The place was built around the famous Shantiniketan university established by Rabindranath Tagore. Hence there is not much going on except the regular activities of the university. Also the place doesn't have that many sights to visit. It is a very nice place for a weekend retreat for a couple or small group of friends.

Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Food is on a little expensive side. The best is the Rajdhani restaurant which is located near the municipal fish market.

Activities & things to do: Visiting local handicrafts manufacturer's workshops and the new eastern zonal cultural centre.

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: By train is the best. Shantiniketan express is the best train to go there. Reservations can be done online from irctc website.

"Good weekend destination"

  • 6.0/7
  • Posted Jan 21, 2013
The trip was short and sweet. The place was serene and calm. One day is enough to visit Vishvabharati and as we stayed for 4 days, we could experience the local 'Haat'. We also could experience the mela at Vishvabharati. Overall, a good weekend get away from Kolkata

Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Food is a bit monotonous. Bengali food is the only option and there is not much choice in terms of chinese or continental stuff. Vishvabharati is engrossing, specially Tagore's five homes. It is a nice place to shop at Amar kutir though Vasundhara offers better variety.

Activities & things to do: Not much visit Vishvabharati. If you are staying for 2-3 days, visit Amar Kutir, Laze by the KHowai river and experience the local ' Haat' by the riverside. May collect a few local items such as 'Kalamkari' materials, batik prints etc as souvenirs and gift items.. Would suggest extending your trip and visiting Masanjore for 2 days.

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Options as per convenience in either train or roadways. Bolpur is the nearest station though Prantik is just about the same...
