"Old world charm & sad story"

This is a nice place. All together, including visit to sangam and summer palace will not take more than 2 hours. Main place of attraction is the summer palace. Maintenance was OK. But gives good idea about Tipu and his family. Tipu's original palace was ruined by British army. The ruin can be seen.

The place is magnificent and take us back to history. Tipu Sultan the great and his life, we can closely study here. There are palaces, Makbaras, Museums and Temples to visit. His life is preserved in form of paintings, architectures and remains in form of clothes and antiques etc.

"Must see places near Mysore"

  • 7.0/7

Plan a trip for Srirangapatna whenever you visit to Mysore. Sri Ranganathaswamy being the key interest of our visit. The surrounded Kaveri River, Tipu Sultan Gumbaz and Scott's Bungalow are equally fascinating. History lovers will find more of historic things for their eye lust. One of the best places in Karnataka for one day trip.

"Doesn't live upto the expectations"

  • 4.0/7

This city was capital of Mysore kingdom during Tipu Sultan's regime and is set on the banks of Kaveri River. However, it's not as good as it sounds. Couple of heritage sights are good, temples are average but spots near River are not good. I think it has some religious significance as well. The monuments are nothing when compared to those in mysore and river banks are bit littered. There are a lot of attractions though and needs time to cover thoroughly in spite of its small area.

About Srirangapatna (Village)

Nestling in the waters of the River Cauvery is the town of Srirangapatna. It is said that any island formed in River Kaveri is consecrated to Lord Ranganatha and Srirangapatna is part of this culture.

Three things come to one’s mind on hearing the name of Srirangapatna – the temple, Tipu Sultan’s palace, and the bird sanctuary. The town, which is in Mandya district and close to Mysore, is of historic, religious and cultural significance. Situated near the Cauvery River, it lies between the erstwhile capital of the Wodeyar dynasty, Mysuru, and Bengaluru.

Among several temples in this district is one of Sri Ranganatha which was consecrated in 984 AD by a vassal of Western Ganga Dynasty named Tirumalaiah. Also of immense historical importance is Tipu’s palace, Daria Daulat Bagh, which is one of the most important monuments here. The fort which is a blend of Indo and Islamic culture was built in the year 1784.

A short distance away amidst the greenery on the banks of the river is a bird sanctuary, Ranganathittu, which is a breeding ground for birds of various species. A visit to this sanctuary between June and October is the time is the time you can see various kinds of birds and their young ones. A boat ride in the river would enable a closer look at the birds and their nests.
