"Suitable for personal pocket."

Bhubaneswar is known as Temple City. It is calm in comparison to many other state capitals. Very near to Puri, Jagare athletic dham .. Just 60 km with fire lane road & good public conveyance including AC buses. Ample accommodation, star hotels are available for all pockets. Now ola/Uber cabs are available & ola auto also which suits the need of major category of people. Train communication is good. Over all it is a good place with education hub.

"Visit Bhubaneswar for its excellent street food and the Lingaraj Temple"

  • 7.0/7
  • Posted Feb 3, 2017
Idlis, dosas, aloo chops, veg sandwiches and the famous mouth watering dessert Chhena Poda and of course tea- you can be assured of great quality at any of the street side vendors all along roads. The food is cheap and their quality excellent. Barring Chhena Poda, all the other delicacies are served hot, so one need not worry about their quality.

And there is no other dessert that could beat Chhena Poda. Or in plain language- baked cottage cheese cake. Wrapped in the leaves of the Sal tree and baked in a charcoal oven for many hours, the outer crust caramelizes and turns a delicious brown, while on the inside it remains soft and delicate. It is just Manna from heaven!

Caution: Remember to visit these road side eateries not later than 7 PM. In case you are late, you would have only yourself to blame as most of these stalls exhaust all their stocks, given the huge demand!

A must visit place is the 11th Century AD, Lingaraj Temple in old Bhubaneshwar, dedicated to Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu. The temple architecture is majestic. Something is missing from this ancient temple. Every time I have visited this temple, I have always felt, deep inside my heart, that something is amiss at this ancient temple. You need to visit this temple to find out more!

"Yatra to Share. Jagannath temple"

  • 1.0/7
  • Posted Feb 2, 2017
Never thought of such greedy pandits and local people. Everyone is after your money right from cabbie to pandits in all temples of Bhubaneswar and Puri. After every 5 steps in Puri temple you will find a small temple and pandit will ask you to put money in "Thaal" if you do not do so they say that your trip will fail 'yatra poori nahi hogi aapki' and at Mahalaxmi ji and Jagannath ji temple (separate bhawan or mandir for them with one platform) pandits will not even let to see Pratima and offer prayer, they will keep screaming that put money in Thaal, if you put 10 rs note they will ask for bigger note. In my case they asked new notes ₹2000 note.
City is safe for women.
Hotels at beach are below average, small rooms, unhygienic restaurant and not good food. Do not buy stones at chilka lake, they are of
Ake.
2 days are more than sufficient for Puri and half day for Bhubaneswar.

"Clean and open city"

  • 4.5/7
  • Posted Jan 10, 2017
The city of Bhubaneswar is found to be a wide open city with broad roads and less crowd. I liked the city which has been maintained quite nicely. One is not suffocated in the city. Most of the roads are so wide with two lanes and traffic and crowd did not seem to be abnormal. It was, of course, mostly during year end period when most of the people might be holidaying here and there. Still I congratulate the government and administration for maintaining the city nicely.

"Bhubaneswar Going back in time"

  • 6.0/7

A modern planned city in harmony with the place that take you back to more than two thousand years in history. Temples in plenty, caves, stupas, zoo, museum mesmerise you. Various places are not too far from each other. Lingaj and Bindusagar are nearby, so are Mukteswar, Siddeswar, Kedargouri. Similarly khandgiri
And Udaygiri caves are opposite each other.
Dhaulagiri stupa and Asokan edicts are nearby. Many famous temples of similar structure exist. But some stand out for their architectural
Beauty like Mukteswar where you
Can take photos unlike at Lingraj.
You can explore the twin caves leisurely which can be viewed early in the morning. So is the Nandankanan zoo with lake, safari. You may take a guide and finish with least exertion.
