"Suryalanka....nearest beach from Hyderabad"

  • Posted Nov 23, 2007
A quite, hidden pristine clean beach on the east coast..the closest to Hyderabad at less than 400kms away is Suryalanka. Not many people know of this place; the state tourism department is the only one to offer a fantastic beach side resort.
So you have the beach practically for yourselves, with the waves a few meters just walk into the sea from your room in a jiffy. Otherwise enjoy the fantastic sight of the waves and waters to the horizon from the balcony of your room; or enjoy the sea breeze from the pergola just by the beach.
For just a few weeks in November, schools of Dolphins can be spotted at about a kilometer away from the beach .......this was the only place in India I saw Dolphins in the wild so close.

Food, sight-seeing and shopping: This is definitely not for the ones looking for the typical touristy thing or a shoppers paradise. There is only the resort with basic good clean AC rooms and the fantastic sea and beach. Chill with an even chilled beer intercepting it with sumptuous andhra preparation of fish, prawn, crabs et spicy food with chilled beer on the sea side....I wouldn't ask for more.
The more adventurous types can go on long walks by the sea or venture into the surrounding fishing village or better still the wilderness by the seaside.
When in the restaurant, stick to the local andhra preparations...thats what they make best....great spicy hot curries, hot sambar, rasam and not to miss the array of chutneys!!!

Activities & things to do: Sun, sand and sea!!!! Play in the waves, swim if you dare, make sand castles, bury your friends under dunes of sand, get a tan, trek along the sea, explore the beach for red crabs, lovely shells, driftwood etc. During november, get up early to see the Dolphins play with each other so close to the shore. In other months, be a apart of the fishermen getting the daily catch in.
Evenings are for some beach games or a bonfire by the shore.

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Reach Guntur by either road or rail; Suryalanka is about 40 kms from there. The railhead is Bapatla and the beach is 7 kms from the town.

"Hyderabad - Urban Glory"

  • Posted Mar 7, 2007
Its like visiting a tourist location in the US. Excellent city, to live in or visit. Mixes superb hospitality with decent infrastructure and a tourist-friendly mindset.

Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Cannot miss 'Nizams Jewellery Collection', Salarjung museum and Golconda Fort. A hidden secret is the Lumbini park Laser and Water show. I would not recommend the Golconda Light and Sound show because it is mosquito-infested and rather humdrum.
Snowworld is another place worth visiting if you have the time.
Waterfront is by far the restaurant that is unique to Hyderabad.
However, if you go to Hyderabad - you must not leave without having the Biryani at Paradise. Paradise is a heritage restaurant located close to the airport and serves up the best biryani in the world!

Activities & things to do: Shopping around Charminar is fantastic for ethnic stuff. Just dress conservative and you will get a great deal.
Bargaining is a must :-)

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: The rickshaws are robbers here. I would suggest that you use CelCabs (040-23242526). This is a call-taxi service that you can call. They have a range of services that they offer and a fixed rate so haggling is not a concern.

"The Pearl City"

  • Posted Jan 12, 2007
I always thought mumbai is the best place in india but after visiting Hyderabad, i thought i was wrong.
This city is so clean, spacious, beautiful sight seeing and well maintained which you hardly get to see in mumbai. I remember relishing the Hyderabadi biryani of the famous Quality Inn Hotel. The people are kind hearted and warm.
How can one forget to shop for pearls in hyderabad.

I bought amazing sets of pearls, different variety of white and black just feel like buying more of it as they have exclusive collections which is rare to see. Visited various tourist places.

Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Not to missed -
Imax mall
Ramoji Studio
Shopping of pearls

Food,Shopping,Entertainment,Sight Seeing makes it a must to visit the city.

Activities & things to do: Basically if you are looking for exclusive pearls, you can get good varities of it at a reasonable price.

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: You can hire a vehicle for sight seeing or else there are regular Autos available which can take you anywhere in the city.It makes travelling easier.
