"the city of ruins"

  • Posted Mar 19, 2013
for all those interested in history this is a great place. even for young kids the insight that one gets in the rich history of india is astonishing. best place for a weekend break.

Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Hospet offers lots of good veg and nonveg hotels. nothing is available in hampi proper except a meager meal served by the KTDC(only basic meal-no ala-carta). do carry lots of water and be prepared for a trek. and a good camera is a must

Activities & things to do: trek, trek and trek

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: we drove to hospet and the road is quite good.

"PampaNagara a.k.a Hampi"

  • Posted Feb 15, 2013
Hampi is a must see destination for anyone who is interested in knowing the glorious culture, tradition that we have inherited. The capital of Vijayanagar kingdom which was brought to fame by the great king KrishnadevaRaya has so many architectural wonders that reams of papers can be spent in praising this place. So All that I would want to tell you all is - Just go, visit this place !!!

Food, sight-seeing and shopping: We stayed at Hotel Royal Orchid in Hospet which is 10 kms from Hampi. The hotel is clean, has a pool with Jacuzzi, and the rooms are spacious.
While doing our visits in Hampi, you can either do your homework by reading up the importance attached to each monument or you can hire a guide. During season, a guide may charge upto 1500 per day. Dont miss the sunset at Hemakuta hills. One can visit the Tungabhadra Dam one of the evenings. Again just 15 kms from Hospet, this place has the TB Dam and a park below. The sunset view from here is also great. The park has a musical fountain with ample space all around for people to sit on the lawn and enjoy the show.
For lunch, we went to Mango-tree hotel which is an experience in itself. You are seated on the floor overlooking the river. A great lunch in a great atmosphere.
One can shop for small gift articles etc at various places but in my opinion, the small shop attached to Mango Tree hotel looked authentic.

Activities & things to do: We reached Hospet at noon on Day one and had a quick lunch and relaxed a bit. Then we left for TB Dam, got lucky to see the sunset. Then we strolled down to the park and enjoyed the musical fountain.
Day two - we had breakfast at the hotel and left for Hampi. The hotel guys had booked a guide who was waiting near the Sasuve Ganapati Temple. We spent the whole day visiting the main monuments in Hampi. However we realized that one day is not enough. If you need to see and enjoy the true beauty of Hampi, I guess we need to spend at least 4 - 6 days.
Day three - we took a taxi and left for Badami, Aihole and Pattadkal. Again great architectural wonders of the Hoysala regime. Reached hotel late at night.
Day four - leisure breakfast and checked out and headed for Bangalore.

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: We drove down to Hampi from Bangalore. Went on Tumkur Road and then made the mistake of taking a right to reach NH63. PLEASE DO NOT USE THAT ROAD. Go ahead and take a right near Chitradurga and then take the road towards Hospet. That road is much better.

"Hampi"

Visit to Hampi was indeed memorable. A journey into the glorious history of krishnadevraya. It was amazing to know about the great cultural and political heritage of India. It also leads us to introspect on the reasons as to why the glory was invaded and destroyed brutally. As Indians can we learn from the past and grow in future. A visit to Hampi is a must.

Food, sight-seeing and shopping: We stayed at vijayshree heritage resort stay food ambience was very good. We stayed there on new year week. Because of its policy of no alcohol no smoking no nonveg we liked the resort more.

Activities & things to do: Hampi can be seen on bicycle but visiting by your own vehicle is better when traveling with kids.

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Own vehicle is better. Or else all public transports are available .
