"The city of rajputs"

  • 6.0/7
  • Posted Dec 29, 2010
Udaipur is just like any other Indian city with heat, dust and smells. However, the highlight is the lakes and palaces and the unique art of miniature paintings and of course the history and the legends.

Food, sight-seeing and shopping: City palace, lake Pichola and lake palace.
Dal batt is not be missed.
Look out for miniature paintings, they are a must buy.

Activities & things to do: Reliving the history of mewar and rajputs by visiting all those palaces.

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: The city is well connected by rail, air and road and can assessed via Ahmedabad or Jaipur.

"udaipur and around"

  • 6.0/7

there is la lot see in the city and around.
lot of information is available on the places to visit within the city which could be covered in a day.Places around Udaipur are worth spending at least couple of days and if one also wishes to visit few more temples another2 days stay may be planned. To begin with one may visit Jaysamand lake(about 60kms.) second biggest manmade lake in the world which also has a santuary in its vicinity. On the way to Jay samand an old temple of Ambamata in a place called Jagat is worth visiting. From the lake one can move to Chawand, capitol of Maharana Pratap. There is a temple and on the hillok is memorial of Rana pratap and his associates. From here one can proceed to Rishabdeo to visit a beatiful jain temple also known as Kesariaji. One can decide to return to Udaipur(60Kms.) for night and next day move to Eklingji - a shiva temple north of Udaipur at distnce of about 20Kms. One must visit Saas Bahu temples situated near by. These temples are said to be 10 th century. From here one can proceed to Haldighati a valley with yellowish soil where battle took place between Army of Mughal Emperor Akbar and Maharana Pratap. A memorial of Rana, his horse chetak are worth visiting besides Badshai Baug and Rakta Talai. By evening one can reach to Kumbalgarh. A quick climb to the top of the and visit to few temples is worth the effort. Next desination can be Ranakpur. The marvelous jain temple is mesmerising. The art work in marble is actualy poetry on stone. There are some more interesting temples in a radius of 20kms in Ghanerao,Desuri,Sadari and Narlai. Fom one could chose to come to Falana to take train to North towards Delhi or to Ahemdabad side and Mumbai.
In addition one may add trip to Naathdwara, Kankroli and Charbhuja temples. Nathdwara could be reached from Halighati in about half an hour. Spending night there after darshan and next day after visiting Dwarkadheesh temple overlooking the Rajsamand lake in Kankroli (abt.20kms) one can also visit Charbhuja temple on Jodhpur road and reach kumbalgargh.
It was fascinating to see huge waterbodies. Lot of greenary and hills in Rajasthan normaly considered as barren, arid land.

People were very couteous and helpful. We could get food of our choice(without onions and garlic) easily. Budget hotels were neat and clean.

Food, sight-seeing and shopping: already covered

Activities & things to do: Already covered.

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: One could reach udaipur by train or flight- go round and come back to udaipur.
another route could be by train to Falana and round trip back. Best is to hire a car from Udaipur or Falana.
