"Valparai Trip"

To beat the Chennai heat, me and my wife went to Valparai this time.

We hired a cab for a day for Rs. 1200 to go around site seeing in Valaparai. Some of the pictures I took are given below. There is nothing much in Valparai to stay beyond three days.

Food, sight-seeing and shopping: We stayed at Hotel Green Hill as there is no other decent hotel other than Krishna Lodge. Krishna lodge is slightly cheaper than Green Hill but rooms are smaller compared to Green Hill. We are vegetarians. We had tough time looking around a hotel which serves only vegetarian food and not both. We stumbled upon a mess called, Sabari mess on the market road, serving only vegetarian homely food. It is run by a couple. Food served is excellent and charges are very nominal.

Activities & things to do: Best place to unwind.

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: There are plenty buses from Coimbatore and Pollachi to Valparai. One may hire a cab from Coimbatore to Valparai for 1500 rupees.

Pollachi town is about 40 Kms from Coimbatore on the way to Parambikulam - Aliyar Project. Next to Coimbatore it is the leading town of the district and an important commercial centre. Pollachi is a town and a municipality in the Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu, India. Pollachi is the nearest town to Indira Gandhi National Park and it exports coconuts and tender coconuts to all over India. There are several coconut groves and hence it is called as ‘Coconut City’.

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Nearest International Airport

Coimbatore airport is the nearest international airport to Pollachi. International flights to Singapore, Sharjah and Colombo are available by Silk Air ( Singapore Airlines), Air Arabia and Srilankan Airlines. Domestic airlines fly to Chennai, Bangalore, New Delhi, Mumbai and other Indian cities.

Bus Stand

Pollachi has a central bus stand which is used by TNSTC, and the private operators. This is situated in the leg of the town. A new foundation stone was laid by local administration minister M.K. Stalin in November 2007 to construct an additional bus stand for want of space, just opposite to the existing bus stand.

Railway Station

Currently only metre gauge trains are operated in this section, the major routes being Coimbatore - Pollachi - Dindigul and Palghat - Pollachi - Dindigul. Plans for broad gauge conversion of this segment have been approved by the government and are expected to be carried out shortly.

"visit Temples."

  • 6.0/7
  • Posted Nov 25, 2007
It was raining, the Manchester of south was in a such bad condition i had to manage with my family in getting a good accommodation in a good hotel, get a travel vehicle and some how managed.

Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Lot of places nearby with temple importance like Maruthamalai, Thenthirupathi etc. plus lot of local temples we visited. Annapoorna the chain of good restaurants offer good food and we can not forget the sweet mysurpa from Krisna sweets. We had a wonderful shopping of buying good cotton shirts from bazaar shops and handloom bedsheets and pillow covers from local mill outlet shops. We really would have missed the Black Thunder the theme park but we made it. It is worth enjoying place.

Activities & things to do: Planning is a must. But for our good planning we would not have enjoyed. So travel arrangements like booking good room in a good hotel, arrange for a travel vehicle where the driver may be a good guide as we got it and the name of the good restaurants we should know in and around our visiting places.

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: lot of trains connect this city from different places in India, buses are very frequent from near by cities and plane services connect this city from major airports in India.
