Elephanta Caves Experience: The Elephanta caves are on an island just 10kms in the sea off Gateway of India, Mumbai. Regular ferry services every half an hour. Return trip costs Rs 120/person.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Lush green island, hiking, 5th century rock cut caves, beautiful sculptured figures, the Trimurty sculpture being the best.
Activities & things to do: Explore the five caves, two of them have great sculptures and large halls supported by carved pillars. Explore the green forest while going up to the top and see two old Cannons.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Catch a ferry early so you get good time to see and explore the beauty of the island. The last ferry on return is at 5:30 pm.There are no facilities for overnight stay-though there are a number of good restaurants for lunch / snacks.
