About Rishyap Tourism

Rishyap is a small tourist village, which is located in the Darjeeling district of West Bengal. It is located near Lava at an elevation of around 8500 ft above sea level. The nearby regions from here include Kalimpong, from where it is just 32 km. The meaning of the word Rishyap is ‘mountain peak and tree’ and it is located between the junctions of Sikkim, West Bengal and Bhutan. Other than mountain ranges, this small village is surrounded by dense forests. A clear view of the Himalayas and other ranges of Nepal are available from Rishap. Mount Kanchenjunga, situated in the border area of Nepal and Sikkim, is a popular tourist attraction here that is visited for hiking and sightseeing. The range has five peaks which is certified in the name Kanchenjunga, meaning ‘five treasures of snow’. According to records no one has been able to cover it fully. Earlier, Mt Kanchenjunga was considered the highest peak in the world but a survey later on proved that it was Everest. The nearby area includes Lolegaon, which is a small village in the sub-division of Kalimpong. It is located about 24 km from Lava. In the year 1990, the Forest Department of Rishyap along with some local agencies started promoting tourism here. This change started reflecting very soon when the popularity of the destination started increasing among the travellers. The Samml village of Lolegaon is also referred by most of the locals as Kaffer. The Lava-Lolegaon sector is very popular as a bird watching destination because of the availability of some of rare species of birds. Pedong is a region that is also close to Rishyap and is 20 km from the region of Kalimpong. The region of Pedong is surrounded by pine forests and lies on the Jelep La pass, which connects India and Tibet. Other nearby areas of Rishyap includes Jhanidi Dara, which is about 5 km from Lolegaon. It is also a popular tourist destination known for its sunrise view and dense forest. The forest here has been deemed as a Heritage Forest Site by the forest department due to the presence of some century old Oak and Cypress trees. The Tifindara, which was earlier known as “Sherpa Dara”, is a popular spot here, from where clear views of the snow-laden Himalayas are available. Rishyap Experience: it is very good honey moon place in West Bengal. overall a good place to view any time if you are not so busy type

Food, sight-seeing and shopping: no shopping site at Rishayp, sight to be seen if your feeling in road is not horrible. food is very high value in nature

Activities & things to do: walking in jungle

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Best seasons is November /April & May , must take winter cloth in winter, due to high flow of wind every time

Rishyap Experience: It's an half an hour journey from lava by car. It's the heaven for nature lover's. The hills surrounds the place. The kanchenjunga view is excellent from here and the sunrise is fantastic. In full moon it's unbelievable beauty at night you'll never forget.

Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Food is limited types but quite good. You can go lava monastery, lolegaon, Pedong, Kalimpong for sight seeing. these are also very nice places to visit.

Activities & things to do: Just relax and watch the beauty from sunrise to next sunrise. Go for sight seeing after one or two days staying.

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Take necessary medicines and book a return cab in prior. if you like to drink you must buy it before come here.

Rishyap Experience: Far from the madding crowd, Rishyap is the ideal place to be in. At an altitude of 8000 ft., the small lepcha village can be reached by 4 Km. trekking route through the forests from Lava. You can enjoy splendid vistas of nature walks in the surrounding areas and invigorate your senses with the changing colours of the KUNCHENJUNGA as it unveils its exhilarating beauty. You can also trek to TIPINDARA (8,500 ft.) to behold the astounding views of the KUNCHENJUNGA and the other peaks of GUICHA, GUICHALA, KABRU, PANDIM, SIMVO, SINIOLCHU etc.

Food, sight-seeing and shopping: No restaurants,no shopping

Activities & things to do: Bird watching, trekking or simple watch the peaks and sky from your door steps.

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Take share taxi from Kalimpong or from Gubathan or better hire a taxi from NJP or Siliguri.

Rishyap Experience: Spectacular view of large range of Kanchenjunga & The village of lower Rishyap.

Activities & things to do: Park

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Howrah/sealdah to NJP by train & then Rishyap by car (roughly 3hrs journey ) via Kalimpong/lava.

"spectaculus mountain view from RISHYP"

Rishyap Experience: One of the small village of kalimpong subdivison in darjeeling district is RISHYP. Though it is a silence valley you can find a number of hotel in your budget. To see the snow cap hill from your hotel room is unforgettable. The trees, birds, flowers also attract you very much.

Food, sight-seeing and shopping: As there is no market foods can available only hotels in order. From here you can visit 1.lava monastry 2.lolegaon 3.tifindara view point. 4.rechela pass THERE IS NO PROVISION OF MARKETING.

Activities & things to do: To walk in the forest, watching snow peaks are the main activities you can do.

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: You can reach here from lava via siliguri. Though the road from lava to rishyp is very thrilling. You must carry HEAVY WOOLEN DRESSES, DRY FOODS for your personal needs.

Tourist places in Rishyap

Rishyap, also known as Rishop, is a village situated in Darjeeling District, West Bengal. The word Rishyap means 'mountain peak and tree' and it lies at the meeting points of Bhutan, Sikkim and West Bengal.

Travellers can enjoy the view of snow covered mountains from the village. The mountain ranges that are visible from Rishyap are Kokthang, Mt. Kharg, Kabroo, Talung, Khang-Chen-D-Zongha, Rathung, Simvo, Narsingh, Siniolchu and Pandim. Tifindara is a perfect spot to have a glimpse of the Himalayas.

Lava Jamgyong Kongtrul Monastery and Ngedon Chang-Chen Ling Retreat are other tourist spots around Rishyap. Neora Valley Nature Interpretation Centre lies on the Neora National Park, showcasing the photographs, animals, models and stuffed birds. Lolegaon is a Lepcha village, situated nearby Lava and from this site travellers can experience the best sights of the Himalayan ranges.

Jhandi Dara in Lolegaon is a wooded hilltop from where tourists can enjoy the clear view of both Kanchenjunga as well as Mt. Everest. Pedong is another village that can be visited by travellers who are looking to explore the calm and peace environment. Travellers can also tour Lava village for trekking, climbing and hiking.
