Rishap is a scenic small hamlet placed at tri-junction of Sikkim, West Bengal and Bhutan. Located at an altitude of 8500 feet, the place can be reached via Lava which is around 9 km from it. Due to its altitude and its proximity to the Himalayas, the weather here is temperate and alpine. Summers are not too hot, although winters are quite cold.
Summer in Rishap is quite pleasant. Due to the height, the temperature does not rise too much and weather remains bright and pleasant. The average summer temperatures vary between 10° to 29° Celsius. During the summer, the place receives quite a lot of tourists who travel here to escape the summer heat of the plains. Summer is followed by the monsoon during which time the place experiences rainfalls which often causes landslides. This is not an ideal time to visit Rishap since connectivity becomes quite a problem during this time.
Winter in Rishap is quite cold with average winter temperature is between 0° Celsius and 6° Celsius. The mornings are often covered in fog and there are days when one does not see the sun at all. Although quite cold, many people still enjoy visiting the place during this season to enjoy the chill and experience the charm of the place.
Although Rishap is an ideal holiday destination almost throughout the year, the best season to visit Rishap is between the autumn months of October to November and spring time of February to March. During this time it is neither too hot nor cold and the weather is perfect for a trek.
