"1-Day Trip to Thrissur"

Thrissur (Trichur) Experience: I come from Mumbai, so did not find Thrissur a big town, so you can very well get a jist of the city within 3 hours. This city is famous for a Hindu festival which takes place in April-May. But in case you are going anytime outside that period, the only fascinating places to visit I found were the Bible Tower. This is a magnificent piece of work. This is closed on Mondays, and is open till 6:30 pm on weekdays. Apart from this, I roamed around the circle adjoining the Press Club. There's a mall called Citi Centre and various smaller towns. Decent stuff to shop for but nothing unique. Coffee at the Indian Coffee House was good. The one-thing which people did mention was to buy Banana Chips from A-1 Bakery near the Bus Stand. These were good, were natural than the ones we get in Mumbai
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: The market shuts 8 pm onwards. Had to struggle find a wine-shop around Press Club. Finally entered a bar, but they didnt have beer cans
Activities & things to do: Bible Tower. This is the only place I visited. Other places are Art Museum and Zoo. But did not match my interests, so skipped it
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: There's no direct bus from the Cochin Airport to Thrissur. I ended up catching an auto from Airport to Angamaly Bus Stand, which cost me Rs.100. This is a 6km drive, but was unable to bargain much. From Angamaly Bus Stand, I took a bus (non-ac) which took me to Thrissur. This cost me Rs.35 and was around a 1.5 hour journey (somewhere between 50-60 kms). No traffic jams seen, so the journey was smooth. The return journey was also similar. They say there are private buses running from the airport to Angamaly Bus Stand, but was unsure about the frequency, hence, didn't explore that channel

"Holidaying at Thrissur"

Thrissur (Trichur) Experience: Thrissur is a famous and historical place having its own charm. The World Famous Thrissur Pooram Festival is held annually held, which attracts tourists from all over the world. For the orthodox, there are plenty of ancient temples and churches.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Vegetarians better brace up for there are only few good hotels and often in these hotels one may have to wait for along time to be served. Non-vegetarians have better choice. Old market place is where one can find traditional items like spices, cashew nuts etc. As is a fact in Kerala, there are plenty of Jewellery shops .
Activities & things to do: Temples and Churches hold a charm of their own. It is an unforgettable event. Famous Guruvayoor Temple is only an hours journey. There is also the Peechi Dam for those interested to expore deeper parts of the district.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Well connected by Train, and National Highway.

"Athirapalli - Niagara of India"

Thrissur (Trichur) Experience: Athirapalli was the main attraction behind our trip. The other attractions were the Guruvayoor temple, the beaches and lesser known temples. Athirapalli is a beautiful water fall, also known as the Niagara of India. This has been captured in many movies and is a feast to watch. Guruvayoor Temple - the deity being lord Krishna, is another famed attraction. The temple has a glorious history and a must visit destination. Plan the visit very early in the morning to beat the crowd. Little children and infants are allowed to play in a shallow pool in the temple. History goes that lord Krishan as a child played in this pool and children who play in this pool are blessed with good health and fortune.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Keralian food is a delight - be it Veg or Non-Veg. Please be choosy about restaurants, this is left to your judgement. Sight seeing is fun with greenary all around. Shopping is again a tricky venture. If you have somebody who talks in the local dialect accompanying you, you are bound to get a better deal.
Activities & things to do: Beaches - the best place to unwind and relax. Kids can splash around, but ensure that the beach is shallow and the continental shelf does not drop suddenly.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: From Bangalore, we traveled through Mysore, Bandipur, to reach the destination. As the roads are narrow, please plan in advance.
