How does HIQ help properties?

HIQ is an invaluable source of customer feedback. Regularly listening to what customers say about a property is probably the best way of constantly improving your product offering.

What is HolidayIQ all about?

HolidayIQ (HIQ) is dedicated to getting customer opinions on travel accommodation in the form of numerical ratings & subjective reviews. HIQ presents these ratings & reviews received for each property, in a manner that is useful for customers through the website and through other channels like books, magazines and, soon, mobile phones.

Where does your hotel figure when customers search?

Customers can search for hotels by various criteria, and all hotels that fulfil those criteria are shown up on our search results screen. The more ratings your hotel gets from customers, the higher it will show up in the search results. Also, you need to remember that the more ratings your hotel has, the more reliable and realistic the overall rating will be. So it is in your interest to make sure that as many of your customers rate you on a regular basis, keeping your hotel on the top of the heap when a search is done.

How does HIQ help customers?

Most leisure travellers depend on word of mouth to make decisions about holidays. Therefore they are keen to know what other vacationers before them felt about their stay experience. HIQ provides them a structured way of accessing the stay experiences of other people who have gone on holidays before.

What can you do to support the effort?HIQ takes a lot of effort to get accurate & current data about properties, particularly address, telephone number, website URL & indicative tariffs. We would certainly look forward to properties alerting us when any of these details change. It will help your customers get accurate information about you.

How can properties benefit?

The more people rate your property, the more reliable its rating becomes - reflecting a truer picture of the overall opinions of travel lovers who have visited you. What you could do to help yourself, and us, is to pass on our website address to your guests after they visit you, and encourage them to rate you based on their genuine experience at your hotel.

Of course, no rating is automatically accepted into our system, and we have a process in place to ensure that false or biased ratings do not get reflected on our site.

Policy on indication of “type” for hotels included in HolidayIQ (HIQ)

The purpose of indicating “type” in our database, is to allow customers to get an idea of the most likely “type of experience” the hotel is trying to give them.

Classifications given by other agencies such as industry associations, government etc (eg. Star classification based on facilities or Heritage classification based on certified antiquity) are different from the “customer experience” based “type” classification of HIQ and serve distinct and different purposes.

In indicating a certain “type” for a property in HIQ, the following aspects will be considered:

  1. If the property consistently positions itself as a certain “type” to its customers, and that “type” falls within one of the types in IReS, then that type will be indicated.
  2. If the property has not taken a clear positioning of “type”, a perusal of available marketing / customer facing communications will be done to assess the primary “customer experience” being promised.
  3. If no clear “type” is discernible for a property to be included (after carrying out the above 2 steps), then such property will be classified under “General” type.
