2N/2D Haridwar/ Rishikesh planning Q&A
2N/2D Haridwar/ Rishikesh planning
Posted by Neha | Tue Sep 23, 2008 2:18 pm
My husband and I plan to visit Garhwal in November. We will be proceeding to Haridwar/ Rishikesh from Dehradun and have just 2D/2N to cover both places; our return train is from Haridwar, early morning. Wanted a recommendation from others who may have been there as to which of the places (Haridwar/ Rishikesh) should we make our base. Apart from visits to all the temples etc., we would like to do some river rafting at Rishikesh (basic) as well.
Please provide suggestions as to how I should plan my itenarary & what would be the best way to effectively enjoy the beauty of both places.

Neha,
Haridwar is the good place to have a base. it also makes sense as your return is also from haridwar.
The first day you arrive, you can be in Haridwar for the day. You can roam around the market place and during the evening go to Har-Ki-Pauri for the aarti. That will be spectacular and it will continue till 7:30 PM. The remaining time can be spent on shopping - or just sitting at the bank of ganga. Make sure you also have some milk and rabri after the dinner.
You can also ask about the river rafting in haridwar. Next day morning you can go to Rishikesh (about 1 hour). You can go for river rafting. As I have never done it, I do not have any knowledge about the duration. Otherwise, you can visit the Laxmanjhoola, Ramjhoola, Geeta Bhavan and then have your lunch at Chotiwaala restaurant. By the end of the day, you can return back to haridwar.
Next morning yiu can leave haridwar.

Thanks for the detailed reply Abhijit. I think I'm going to make Haridwar as base, as staying for 1 night each at Haridwar and Rishikesh also doesn't make much sense.

Hi Neha
Try Hotel Teerth at Haridwar, I think its best located and the amenities are good too. Don't miss the evening aarti at Brahmakund, Har ki pauri. Ensure that you are atleast half n hour before the beginning as because the place gets really crowded. The best view would be from the other side of the river. On the second evening hit Rishikesh by 5.30 and enjoy a much less commercial and quaint aarti on the Triveni ghat. Resereve one morning for a couple of trolley rides one to Mansa devi mandir and another one to Chandi Devi accross the Neel dhara. Check out the link below it could give you some idea about the place.
