Ajanta would need a full day and so will Ellora. It is advicable to stay at Aurangabad for 2N. One full day for sight seeings inside Aurangabad and one full day for Ellora (30 km). For touring Ajanta, you can even stay at Aurangabad and visit Ajanta (104 km) for a day trip. I guess that would be preferable. If you can stay at Aurangabad for 3/4N, you can dedicate a full day each to Ajanta, Ellora, Auranagbad and one day for leisure and relaxation. Otherwise a 3N stay would also do.
