Alleppey is 60 km from Kochi. It is possible to hire a taxi in the morning, it is just a 1 hour drive from Kochi. You can go to this place called "finishing point". That is where the backwater boat rides can be done. There are a couple of good hotels in Alleppey where you can have your meal and get back to Kochi by evening.

Alappuzha frin kochi is just 50-60 Kms. You can easily go and come back.
Alappuzha is actually famous for it's backwater stay around Pamba river, vembanad lake, House boat stay etc.
As far as towin is concerned there are only two places to see one Revi Karan Museum & Beach. as per my suggestion there is no point going to Alappey for day trip from Cochin.

Hi,
Do stay for at least 1 night in Alleppey or you will miss out the charming evening. Stay beside a backwater or the Vembanad lake.
