BANGALORE TO COORG VIA SHRAVANBELGOLA

I AM REACHING BANGALORE AT 1130 AM ON 21/07/2007 AND HAVE A RESERVATION AT MAHINDRA RESORT, COORG FROM THE SAME DAY. INSTEAD OF GOING DIRECTLY FROM BAG TO COORG, I PLAN TO GO TO SHRAVANBELGOLA FROM BANG AND FROM SHRAVANBELGOLA TO COORG THE SAME DAY. CAN SOMEONE GUIDE ME ABOUT THE TIME /DISTANCE/ROAD CONDITION.

u can make a trip to shravanbelagola, but u have not given the vehicle u are taking, if its our own taxi, its okay, if its by bus, sorry please go directly to coorg.
roads from blore ot shravanbelagola is good but from there u have to take the mysore route towards coorg which is average, from blore to sgola it takes around 3 to 4 hours from there to coorg around 6 hours

I am making two presumptions - one you are traveling by car and two you are planning to climb Shravanabelagola (why else would you want to go there?).
If you reach Bangalore at 11.30 and take a car it will take you at least an hour to get out of Bangalore considering the traffic at that time of the day. You go up to Nelamangala (27km from Bangalore City Station) and from there it will be about 3 hours to Shravanabelagola - which means you will get there close to 4pm. The climb up and down will take you at least two hours. And if you leave at 6pm you will reach close to Hunsur at around 8pm (its about 100km and the road is not very good). My personal experience driving on that road at dusk is that there is a lot of traffic of the bovine variety - cows being driven home after their grazing. Again I'm not sure where the Mahindra Resort in Coorg is but from Hunsur it will take you anything between 2 to 3 hours to reach your destination.
In short it is do-able but why push it too much? Instead on your way back leave Coorg early in the day visit Shravanabelagola and then head to Bangalore (Again I'm being presumptuous - one, you really want to take in Shravanabelagola and two, you are heading back home via Bangalore!)

THANKS BOBSYOURUNCLE FOR THE DETAILED INFORMATION. I AM TAKING A TAXI OUT OF BANGALORE . I REALLY DO WANT TO VISIT SHRAVANBELGOLA BECAUSE IT IS A PILGRIMAGE FOR ME. I AM NOT HEADING HOME VIA BANGALORE SO CANNOT VISIT SHRAVANBELGOLA ON MY WAY BACK. SO I WILL BE PUSHING MYSELF (ALONG WITH MY FAMILY) AND TRY TO VISIT SHRAVANBELGOLA THE SAME DAY. MAHINDRA COORG IS NEAR MADIKERI , KODAGU VALLEY.
