Best location to stay in Havelock

Hello Folks,

We are visiting Andaman the first week of November and planning to be in Havelock for 2 days. Which is the best resort to stay in Havelock? Someone told Barefoot is the best choice but the food is bad, and some told Wild Orchid is better.

I am looking for a resort with a good Beach view from the resort, with good rooms, services and food. What do you guys suggest?

Barefoot is rated by travellers on HolidayIQ as the best resort in Havelock, but there a number of other interesting options. Here is the link for all hotels where you can read all the traveller reviews and make up your mind. Have a good trip.

Hi Picado,

I personally stayed at Wild Orchid for a couple of days. The thing about Wild Orchid is it is in-between the 'budget' and 'luxury' category. The food is delicious and rooms are neat, toilets clean etc. If you ask me about the views all of these resorts are just on the beach next to each other. From either you will enjoy the exact same white sand and the exact same aquamarine sea. My suggestion is save the extra on the hotel, it will pay for your snorkeling experience. Ha ha.

There is another resort called Emerald Gecko which is part of Wild Orchid. They have small huts available with a very cheap price. But I dont know the quality of those. Is there anyone who stayed there?

I just thought to spend less on accomodation and spend more on activities. Thanks Arindam for that idea 8-)

There are no. of budget options available for stay in Havelock. In Mid-budget category Wild Orchid is the best as is Barefoot in Premium category. Regarding Budget places there are plenty of options available including a tent site & Radhanagar Beach which can be booked from Port Blair.

Hi Picado
Your information is very dated. For the last couple of years, Barefoot is now run by an Italian couple who have done wonders for the food there (the wife is in charge of the wood fire oven and the pastas as well). Hands downs the best food on the island. I revisited in April this year. They also have a new Indian head chef, so both the Indian and Italian dishes are now outstanding. A marked improvement from my earlier visit.
Emerald Gecko is purely a backpacker place. If you were evaluating Barefoot, you will be disappointed with Gecko for sure.
Barefoot is the only property on Beach No.7. What Arindam says applies to all the other resorts which are 10kms away from Barefoot on Beach No.3 & 5
In the mid range, if price/value is your guiding light then there are newer places than Wild Orchid with cheaper and better rooms. Sea Shells is probably the most recommended in this category. You can also check out the new cottages at Barefoot Scuba, near Wild Orchid, which are actually cracking value.
On that strip of beach Wild Orchid does have the best restaurant though, although the rooms are now a distant 3rd and a close 4th in its price category
Also, if you are staying on that part of the island, you may want to have at least one meal at B3 at the jetty - by far the best restaurant on the island. Swiss chef with Indian helpers.
