It will be very good in Dec since it is off season and there will be less crowd - however you should be able to bear the chill. Being a bangalorean that should not be a problem.
Best route is to take NH7 from Bangalore and reach Dindigul via Salem, Karur and then ask for directions. It is around 80 kms from Dindigul and probable goes via Periyakulam from where the Ghats start
It is also better to take the help of some guide at Kodai, since there are a lot of good spots not listed in the tourist map

Hills are best in .... Winter's are foggy.... With kids you might face issues with cold. But March is good time. I have visited Kumaon and Himachal mostly in terms of mountains. And my experience says March onwards if you visit hills you enjoy more than .
Car is no problem. You can take it... You will have flexibility. but winter is best to visit Kerala.... If you have not visited... you might think of going there. Whatever you decide enjoy and have a great vaccation.

Hi Sumita,
I fully agree with you that hills are good in .Actually I am an NRI working in UAE and my yearly leave is due in December that is why I have planned Kodaikanal in December and I cant postpone my leave till March.
So far I have not visited Kerala. I will try this time if possible.
Please let me know some of the good places to see during a 4 days visit.
Thanks
Imtiyaz
