Mysore is mainly a City of Historic Attraction and handicraft.........so don't miss any places related to this.........specially Mysore Palace....Chamunda temple..........Church......Zoo is also gud there......moreover I like the climate of Mysore......u won't be tired (no heat like in Chennai) while walking along road side evening market......Book online ur hotel.......it is convenient as well offers lesser price.....hotels in main city are more convenient u get a real feel of the city......Gallery View is the hotel I stayed......AC rooms are managable @ 1100 per night.....

Hi Varsha,

Mysore is one of the better planned Cities in Karnataka, if not in India.

It has plenty of attractions in and around to keep you busy for 3 days at least.

1)Royal Palace - with Golden Throne - Must see
2) Chamundi Hills - The Chamundeshwari Temple - Big Stone Bull Nandi
3) Jaganmohan Palace - Art Gallery - Collections by Mysore Royal Family
4) Brindavan Gardens + KR Sagar Dam - Beutiful Garden next to dam.
5) St. Pholomena's Church - Quite tall Church towers
These 5 can easily take up one full day.

Nearby Mysore:
1) Rangantittu Bird Sanctuary (I think Oct - Mar best time to visit) - nice picturesque island on River Cauvery
2) Srirangapatna - Tipu Sultan Summer Palce, his tomb, Ranganathaswamy temple - Good place if you are a bit of History buff.
And Srirangapatna alone can take up one full day.

You have more places near Mysore if you have more time.
They are:
1) Somanathpur - 900 year old temple - nice stone Hoysala architecture - RECOMMENDED
2) Shivanasamudra Water falls - In this rainy season it must be full flowing
3) Talkadu - Perhaps only place in Southern India with Sand dunes; Nice Kaveri River; Old Shiva temples
These 3 places will take up 1 full day (by car)

Have a happy Mysore.
