We stayed in Hotel Sheela...cost was 1400 per night...

You can stay at Taj Khema, a UP Tourism property. Location is awesome. It is barely 700 metres from the Eastern gate and even has a Taj View Point of its own. The cost of AC cottage is INR.1800 per night for two on AP basis (bed+breakfast). Its worth giving a try.

Hi !
Tourists go to Agra,for visiting Tajmahal, You must therefore prefer a hotel near the Taj,
Hotel Taj Plaza is the best choice, very reasonable, good rooms,
very close to the Taj, Good food and very good service.

Stay at hotel ajay international near fort railway (aug 2011)very basic hotel but clean. has restaurtant inr 850 no hot water in morning maybe when i stayed but owners helpful & friendly.
