Don't book any house boat on on line; first go and stay Alleppy ; nice place; nice people;my suggestion is stay at Royale park hotel; so nice one; it is very near to boat jetty; u can walk to that place; there u can approach 'govt jetty office'; they can give u best information on this ;u can also book some private operators from that point; bargain g is common in India no exclusion Kerala;ok; before conformation for costly house boat to stay at night; u must check it by-sitting inside , the bed room etc; hotel staff is also helpful on this matter;OK :; i hope u can enjoy it happily without wasting much money

Hi,
Do not go by what the websites show or claim..I booked a house boat for my family (6 of us) 2 years back.
the best way to book is to go and visit kerala tourism office nearby your place. you can google and get the kerala toursim office number and speak to them.
they will advise you on the right package and the nominal rates. They are all government authorized travel agent and they will give you a receipt for your payment.
You can ask for 1 day or 2 day package and the type of boat.. if you get a house boat with a terrace type , then they will not go into Kumarakom as it gets too windy for terraced house boats to get into kumarakom..these are fine prints that you should ask before ..
ACs are operated only in the night hours and not throughout the day.. so u need to be sure if you want to pay for AC only for the night.. Two bedroom boat houses are smaller but three bedroom ones are big and well designed.

There are lot of Houseboats and Houseboat operators in Alleppey. When you are booking or choosing a houseboat do not go for very low cost houseboat. Most of the people/tourists do not know what will be difference between the low cost and a bit expensive houseboat. The houseboat many look good, but when the rates down the quality of the service will also come down. That is the CURSING TIME, FOOD QUALITY, if you are a non vegetarian, the size, quality. type of the FISH depends upon the amount you paid (it varies). Sometimes a low cost houseboat may look good, bu the quality of service may be poor.

More over this not only a tourism promotion, it also a pure business. So the operators expecting profit from their houseboat. So when reducing the rate they will reduce the Cruising time, quality food, service etc. Then only they will get profit.

So remember do not go for very low rate houseboats. Some recommendations are:
