Hubli to Hampi Q&A
Hubli to Hampi
Posted by Prashant | Wed Sep 15, 2010 7:41 am
Hello friends,
We are a group of 6 people (age between 28-30) travelling to Hampi Oct 1st week. We will be travelling from Mumbai to Hubli (station) and will catch a local transport or taxi to Hampi.
Can some one please reply me with these following questions:
1) Travel distance is 160 kms from Hubli to Hampi. Can someone tell me what time will it take to reach Hampi and what mode of transport would be available for travel.
2) What would be the charges of taxi and/or bus from Hubli to Hampi.
3) What places should I visit in Hampi. I have full 2 days to explore that town.
4) What is the local trasport available in Hampi to travel from one point to another.
5) I have heard there are many home stay options available in Hampi. Are there any renowned and good home stay places. Or are hotels a better option to stay. How much would these home stay and hotels range from.
6) What kind of cuisines would be available there.
7) Best eateries in Hampi.
8) Any must do things I should not miss on Hampi exploring trip.
9) Weather in the last week of September and first week of October.
10) Is there anything I should see in Hubli or anywhere between Hampi and Hubli. As we are travelling there might as well check anything worth visiting.
Your replies will help.
Thank you

1) Travel distance is 160 kms from Hubli to Hampi. Can someone tell me what time will it take to reach Hampi and what mode of transport would be available for travel.
For 6 people I would suggest a Scorpio/Tavera/Innova - in that order of priority!
2) What would be the charges of taxi and/or bus from Hubli to Hampi.
It will be in the range of Rs.10-12 or more if it is AC (not required given the present weather)
3) What places should I visit in Hampi. I have full 2 days to explore that town.
I suggest you pick up a good guide book and explore the place fully well. The list of places and sites to visit is exhaustive. In fact, I would even suggest getting a guide to help out.
4) What is the local trasport available in Hampi to travel from one point to another.
You will not need any local transport - your taxi can drop you off at a central point in Hampi - generally the market street leading to the big temple. From here many of the places are within walking distance. At most you can take 2 autos and reach the far away places - like the Lotus Mahal etc.
5) I have heard there are many home stay options available in Hampi. Are there any renowned and good home stay places. Or are hotels a better option to stay. How much would these home stay and hotels range from.
I personally prefer hotels - there is one we stayed in called Kishkinda - please see my review elsewhere. The range is varied but a good place will cost minimum Rs.1000/night
6) What kind of cuisines would be available there.
All kinds of cuisine is available. Of interest are some small places serving Israeli food. And some bakeries. All in the vicinity of the big temple
7) Best eateries in Hampi.
None that is significantly better than another.
8) Any must do things I should not miss on Hampi exploring trip.
Spend time enjoying the intricate work in all the places. The guide book will tell you what not to miss - Rough Guide is my favourite!
9) Weather in the last week of September and first week of October.
It will be very pleasant but expect some rain.
10) Is there anything I should see in Hubli or anywhere between Hampi and Hubli. As we are travelling there might as well check anything worth visiting.
Can't think of anything that is exquisite!
I'm sure you'll have a great time! Enjoy!

Hey Prashant,
1) Travel distance is 160 kms from Hubli to Hampi. Can someone tell me what time will it take to reach Hampi and what mode of transport would be available for travel.
I would suggest take a public bus, bus stand is 2 minutes walk from the railway station, it will be more fun as well...You can also take autos but you will have to negotiate very very hard.
2) What would be the charges of taxi and/or bus from Hubli to Hampi.
Bus will cost you a regular 10-15 rs. where as an auto will cost you INR 100-150 per auto
3) What places should I visit in Hampi. I have full 2 days to explore that town.
I agree with Bob here, get yourself a good guide, ask the hotel you are staying in, they will arrange it for you, there are hell lots of places to see there.
4) What is the local trasport available in Hampi to travel from one point to another.
To cross the river a boat is available from 7 am to 6 pm, please cross the river and go to the other side, its magical, you will find autos, you can hire bikes as well, or cycles.
5) I have heard there are many home stay options available in Hampi. Are there any renowned and good home stay places. Or are hotels a better option to stay. How much would these home stay and hotels range from.
You have to stay at Shanti Guest House, it is the best place of stay in Hampi, they have small cottages and hammocks in front of the cottages and the price is very minimal.
6) What kind of cuisines would be available there.
You will find all kindof cuisine but mostly Hampi has amazing Israeli food, Shanti Guest House has an amazing restaurant and offer some great food.
7) Best eateries in Hampi.
Quite a few, just explore both the sides of the river.
8) Any must do things I should not miss on Hampi exploring trip.
Don't miss the hanuman temple sunset or sunrise view. It has 600 steps and the view once you reach on the top is breathtaking. Don't miss it
9) Weather in the last week of September and first week of October.
Pleasant
10) Is there anything I should see in Hubli or anywhere between Hampi and Hubli. As we are travelling there might as well check anything worth visiting.
