Hi,
One of the best place in Andaman is havelock island.
1: Reach Port blair and transfer to Havelock island Ferry , same day . (It will be good if you book ferry ticket in advance by some Agents in Portblair)
Stay at Barefoot Resort or Govt. provided tent at Radhanagar Beach, or wild orchid resort or Dolphin yatri niwas at Vijaynagar beach.
Relax there and come back to portblair one day before of departure from Portblair.
regards

Dear Komal,
I would advise you not to go to Andamans if you are carrying. Please consult your doctor. The reasons:
1) Variety of Food for your condition is available in very few places.
2) The ship journey is quite hectic and tiring and during time of rough weather and high tides the ship rocks and normal people start vomitting.
3) The main attractions and activities like snorkelling, trekking are not advisable if you are carrying, so half the fun of Andamans is gone.
4) Medical Facilities are few and limited
5) In case of emergency it will be difficult to travel, for example if you are at Havelock and god forbide if there is an emergency, it is difficult to arrange for mode of transport to get back to Port Blair.
I am not a doctor so do consult a doctor before taking the decision
Regards,
SC

Hi Komal
This is a doctor replying - with that revelation I have given a clue to my identity!
The most important question I have is "Do you have to go now?" If the answer to this is "Yes" then my next question is "Did you have any complications in any previous pregnancy or do you have any problem complicating this pregnancy?"
I am asking you the first question because I agree with swastik73 (Swastik, you have surpassed the capabilities of doctors with your lucid explanations!)- god forbid but if you have a problem you will be well and truly stranded on an island. I have had the experience of accompanying a patient (who had a paralytic stroke) on a boat from one island to Port Blair - it is not exactly very exciting. The facilities available in Havelock or any other island are not exactly the best - added to that the problem of the distance between Port Blair and other areas is most worrisome.
Now, if you have to go then please check with your obstetrician if you have any complications. If the answer to this is "Yes" then I'd advise you not to . I believe every pregnancy is precious - why take a risk?
I presume we have succeeded in convincing you not to travel but just in case you do - which ever island you are on, if you do have problems - ask for the nearest Primary Health Centre (and hope there is a Doctor there). If you are in Port Blair - ask for the GB Pant Hospital (and hope there is Doctor there). If really necessary you can go to a private hospital - Pilar Health Centre - Phone 03192 233193 (they don't have an Obstetrician but a doctor will definitely be there to help you out).
Have an enjoyable pregnancy, an easy delivery and loads of fun with the newborn for the years to come. Five years from now take your kid snorkelling - let me assure you it will be more rewarding than going underwater now!

I wouldn't suggest a trip to the Andamans if you are pregnant. The reasons are several :
A. The 2 1/2 hour air journey is long and there is a chance, possibly remote but a chance nonetheless, that it may bring on a complication. Port Blair has minimal medical facilities compared to other Indian cities and I would not trust them to deal with any competence, should the need arise or there be an emergency. Getting back to the mainland in time may be a problem.
B. Port Blair has no beaches and you can only get to any that are worth visiting after a long car journey. This involves a bumpy drive and a hilly one. Again not advisable in your condition.
C. Other activity options are rides across the sea. If you develop sea sickness ... refer to point A above ![]()
The Andamans are beautiful and to explore them you need time and energy. Long drives, sea rides, swimming, etc are part and parcel of the experience. We were there for seven days and we felt there was a lot more to see when our time was up !!! Check with your doctor, discuss it with your husband and make an informed decision about whether you should make a trip to the Andamans or not, at this point of time.
