None Tourist Q&A

Hi All

I'm visiting Jaipur in November & would like to visit some areas which are not tourist areas. I would like to see a part of Jaipur which only locals would visit.

I'm interested in temples, museums, parks, eating, anything which would be typical india.

Any ideas??????

I would strongly recommend the Birla Temple and the near by Motidungri (Ganesh) Temple. Also do try the Lassi at Lassiwala on M I Road and "Rawat Ki Kachori" (ask anyone when in Jaipur) as far as food goes. ENJOY!

The Chinese restaurant (Dragon I think) located within the hotel called Country Inn & Suites by Carlson at Khasa Kothi is quite good. Good food, good service but quite expensive.
The Khasa Kothi area should be known to your driver even if the hotel isn't. The hotel is situated right next to the RTDC Khasa Kothi hotel.

Miro's on M.I.Road was quite highly recommended to me by a friend. Although I coulnd't go myself, the restaurant was known to all the rickshaw drivers who drove me around. All of them mentioned that there are long queues to get into the restaurant, so should be good.

A tip: Please try and avoid travelling by yourself, especially at night and especially on the Khasa Kothi road. M.I.Road was quite crowded so should be safe but to be on the safe side, avoid travelling by yourself at night.

Dear Traveller,

First, do go to Lassiwala on M.I.Road. There are more than one with the same name. The original one is the one with a blue board and its a corner shop.

Second, food at LMB Hotel on Johari Bazar is good...specially if you want to try rajasthani food. their tikia is also gr8.

Third, Chokhidhani is a must-visit. It is a village resort on Tonk Road and entry charges per person is around Rs.250 or 300. Food is included in the entry fee.

Fourth, Nahargarh Fort is good if the weather is good.

Fifth, shop for textiles, bedcovers, jootis in Bapu Bazar and the adjoining Link Road.

Sixth, Govind devji Temple is very good. He is the reigning deity of Jaipur...so a visit is recommended.

Seventh, Ratan Textiles, Anokhi, Soma Shop, Cottons are a few niche shops of Jaipur to shop for clothes and home stuff.

Thats all i can remember now..

The Best way to see Jaipur as a local resident would see it would be on Foot or Rickshaw (3 wheeled cycle rickshaw) back. For more details, I would recommend that you read my experiences during the Jaipur trip.

Suhani, I didn't really like the LMB restaurant but perhaps for reasons other than food. The table linen and the chairs (sofas if you will) were dirty. The food was ok. One of our company ordered a thali. The waiter/supervisor stood over us all through our meal to ensure that we did not share the thali. In fact, we had wanted to take a bite or two out of the thali just to see how it tasted - we had ordered separately for the rest of the company so we were not likely to dig into the thali- but because of the hovering guy, we got so uncomfortable that the rest of us didn't even venture to look at the thali leave alone taste the contents!! All in all, an experience I would have loved to have missed. I didn't taste the kachoris which I too had been told were good but I guess I don't really regret it now.
