Khajuraho trip! Q&A
Khajuraho trip!
Posted by Varun | Thu Dec 15, 2011 3:23 pm
Hello
I'll be reaching Khajuraho from Varanasi and leaving Khajuraho to Delhi the evening. How I can spend a day effectively ?Looks like I need only max 5 hrs to visit the temples. How to spend the other 6 hrs...can i make a quick trip somewhere closeby ?
Also, what is the best transportation approach to get to the temples from the train station...How much does it cost..! Will I be able to book a guide before reaching there ??
please advise.
thanks in advance.

Hi
I would suggest, take MP tourism guide, instead of taking any roadside guide.Spend more time in western side temples as others are mostly in ruins .If you have extra 5-6 hrs,you can visit waterfall nearby ,about 20-25 kms(the guide/the taxi driver should be asked if there is water in the falls),otherwise no point going there.
If you have some time in the evening,do see light and sound show available in Hindi as well as
English (i recommend Hindi show). This show is also at the western side temples. Plenty of taxi cabs, this is tourist season, so you will have to bargain to get good service--we visited two years ago ,so those rates wont apply now.
wish you happy time in khajuraho--

Hi Varun: In addition to the suggestions already made by Anand, I would add if you can spare a day, stay there overnight to catch the sight and sound show at the temples which give history and background of these temples built by Chandelas. You can also see the folk dances performed by local artists at the near by MP tourist center. Though the Western group of temples are the main attraction, the Eastern group of Jain temples are worthwhile to see but these are similar as they were given by Chandelas to Jains later. However, beware the doors to many deities here close before noon(though the temple complex remains open).
Ranegh falls is about 17km and could be reached by a taxi.
We came by flight and had arranged a taxi through the hotel but we did see some taxis at the . I would imagine there will be taxis available at the train station also. Three wheelers are also available in the town and we found these guys to be honest and very helpful.
As you are not likely to come back here to see the temples again, stay there overnight if you have time now and see most of the temples and some .
