Hi All,
we are a group of 15 peoples (4family's) would like to stay at matheran on 31st december2008. Please suggest us the best place.

Try Hotel Woodlands. Very friendly, and spacious place.

It depends a lot on your budget. We were a group of 5 families who booked into Kumar Plaza. It was a nightmare, basically due to unkept and dirty rooms. However, USHA Ascot next door seemed to be a great place. You need to check the present tariff's.

Hotel Preeti is also good. Its walkable from station.
Lot of outdoor activity. good food. Very reasonably priced
