Hi,
Yes, you need to spend a day in port blair to connect to your etc.can.islands.catch glimpse almost extinct Jarawa tribe. you can visit the beautiful limestone caves and the mangroves...and also the mud volcanoes (these are not scenic particularly but a strange phenomena that occurs only in a few places in the world).

Well luxury, yes somewhat (more so in case of Barefoot than Wild Orchid). but dont expect a 5-star resort, although Barefoot, I am told, is now operated by the Aitken Spence (a renowned Sri Lankan conglomerate who run fabolous recorts elsewhere). And of course, wilderness is not that wild! ... It's an island ... a beautiful, green and pristine place to chill! enjoy the sun, surf, beach, food, view and just lazing around .... maybe hire a two-wheeler (the one place in the Andamans) to check out the island in early mornings or late evenings.
If you are going sometime now, the sea around Barefoot would be little rough, but the Wild Orchid end (around Beach No.5) will be great. Try hit that strectch before lunch if you want a good swim, since as the day would progress and if it is getting to be low tide, the sea gets shallower and just you can only float (and play) around in the water..... or walk out a great length into the sea! the sea, on either side of the island (Barefoot in the recommended. constraint. forth.replies. is a great resort, but on another side of India in the Lanshadweep Islands. I think what the "Baratang".trip!
