Timings to pass by Bandipur forest Q&A
Timings to pass by Bandipur forest
Posted by picado | Fri May 11, 2012 1:03 pm
Hi Folks,
I am planning to visit Ooty from Bangalore (via Bandipur forest). I know the Forest checkpoint used to be closed for vehicles from 6pm-6am. Sometime back I read in the newspaper that the restriction is removed, but not sure about it... Does anyone know they are still keeping those timings?
Thanks much in advance!
TT

i would suggest not to pass by in night time as had a horrific incident with family when doing so 2 years back when elephant charged to our car after being disturbed by the car headlights from vehicle passing by road.

Hi,
The Road is still closed for public, but from 09pm - 6:00am
if your driving, its not advisable to take that road, for that you can go via Krishnagiri, but the travel time is longer, the roads are good.
If you plan to travel by bus, there is only a KSRTC (10:15pm & 10:45) ooty bus that go non stop.
Rgds

To the best of my knowledge, the restiction is from sunrise to sunset. In fact, it is not advicable to venture out in the evening.
The Bandipur van safari is a 30 minute drive in a 25 seater van. The timings for the same are:
Morning: 6.30 AM to 9AM
Evening: 3.30 PM to 6PM
The jeep safari is for a maximum of six people at a time and there are two trips in the morning and two in the evening. The timings for the same are:
Morning:
First trip 6.30AM to 8AM
Second trip: 8am to 9.30am
Evening:
First trip: 3.30PM to 5PM
Second trip: 5PM to 6.30PM
The Bandipur Mudumalai elephant safari includes a 10 minute ride on the elephant. A maximum of four persons are taken on one elephant. The tickets are sold on a first come first serve basis and so do make your bookings in advance to avoid disappointment.
So you see, there is absolutely no need for you to venture out during the evening.
Bon Voyage ![]()

So hope you have got good replies for your query.
I had gone to Ooty after going to Munnar from Hyderabad in April,2012; so didnt take Bangalore route; so considering the warnings above go there and enjoy it is a great place dont forget to visit Pyakara, really a lovely place.

Resstrictions still remain. However, it will is nice to drive through the forest around 7 in the norning or around 5 in the evening. More chances of seeing wild animals
