Rajasthan

Posted by chubbie | Sat Nov 20, 2010 6:23 pm

Hi,
Can anyone help me with my travel plans to Rajasthan? My places of interest are: Bharatpur, Ranthambor, Udaipur and jaipur. My plan is in Jan and 2n at each of the places (flexible) and I am starting from Bombay. I intend travelling mostly by train: Mum to Bharatpur; Bharatpur to Ranthambore; Ranthambore to jaipur and then to Udaipur and finally bombay. How do I travel from Bharatpur to Ranthambore? Does my plan sound sensible enough? Any suggestions please?

Thanks

From Mumbai to Bharatpur you can catch Pachim express. The reservation
has to be booked of mathura ( i was not allowed to select the station while i was booking) . Bharatpur station comes first and then mathura which is about 50 kms. On saras cirlce, there are lot many good hotels. And saras cirlce is stone throw from the sanctuary. Hotel SAras of RTDC is a mediocre hotel which i you can opt if no other choice. The rooms are big but only the soft furnishings was not proper. Also the food is so-so. But then you can enjy food of ohter hotels restaurant on the saras cirlces.

The rail station for Ranthambhore is Sawai Madhopur which is one of the main stations on Mumbai Route. Bharatpur/mathura comes after sawai madhopur from mumbai. Janashatabdi train can be preferred to swai madhopur from bharatpur as the distance is around 150-200 kms.
The jungle safari at Ranthambhore has some restrictions and this can be checked fom rajasthanwildlife.in site. The trips are early in the morning at around 06:00 am and in the evening at 03:00 pm. The canter can be booked from the same website. But one needs to present the ID in person before boarding safari vehicles. The hotels assist in this by charging some buks.
RTDC vinayak is good moderate hotel however you can decide the hotel as per your status, budget and liking.Lot of hotels are available on Ranthambhore road. Hotel may adopt a mktg gimmick saying the location is near to park. As a matter of fact the safari picks the registered tourist from the hotel or from the ranthambhore road and also the jungel is entry is restricted.

From Sawai Madhopur to Jaipur you check trains and availibilty fon indianrai.gov.in Since both are main cities of rajasthan it shoudl not be a problem.

For jaipur to mumbai there 2 train 1. Jaiur Mumbai Superfast and Jaipur Bandra expres.. Pls check the exact train and timming as it may have undergone a change.

Have a nice vacation.

Thanks Nitin for the information. Is this Saras Hotel inside the sanctuary, because I'm looking for a place inside. Also you did not mention udaipur. I think its out of the way?

Hi Chubbie
I can give some input about Bharatpur which I visited recently. We stayed at hotel Pratap palace which is 2 mins away from the sanctuary gate. They were reasonable, had good rooms and very good food. Food outside may be an issue in Bharatpur as you would have to go to other hotels and there are no restaurants as such. The only hotel within the sanctuary is the Ashok group. It depends on your budget, but if this is not a restricting factor, it would be ideal to stay inside the sanctuary. Also, this cuts down on rickshaw fare to some extent and entry fee everytime which is Rs 50 per person.

Do remember to get up early and catch the opening hours from 6.30 onwards.

Dear Aditi,
It does not make good sense to stay inside the sanctuary - the price is exhorbitant and really for no good reason. They have quoted Rs5500/day only breakfast included. I think staying outside the gates is a better idea so that we can spend a few more days and even make a trip to Agra with base in Bharatpur.
Pratap seems a good place. I'll try that.
Thanks
