Posted by chithra | Sun Dec 26, 2010 5:47 pm
Hi,
Am planning for a 4 days trip to Manali from Delhi towards end of February 2011 with my hus and 2yr old daughter. So please tell me which will be the most comfortable and safest mode of journey from Delhi?
Can somebody let me know how the weather is towards end of february?also, i have shortlisted some resorts for the stay. Manuallaya (ambassador resort), Banon Resorts, River Country Resort & Solang Valley resort and can you please advise which is the best one & how easy is to arrange a cab for sight seeing?
Thanks in advance...

Hi Chithra,
End of Feb is not a peak season time. You can have a lot of options for commuting from Delhi to Manali as well as Hotels.
(A) Commuting from Delhi to Manali
1. If Budget is not a constraint than I recommend a flight from Delhi to Kullu. This way you will avoid the Traffic from Mandi to Manali. Rest Assured you will not miss any scenery because right from Mandi one side is completely concrete houses and other side is Beas. You can see the better side of this scenery when you travel from Kullu Airport to Manali - which will take approx 45 minutes to an hour depending on traffic. Indian Airlines (current ticket rates are 12200 Rs per person Delhi - Kullu and Return Kullu to Delhi. Kingfisher also flies this sector but is expensive i.e. 22500 return airfare.
2. If you do not want to spend so much than you can take Luxury Volvo Busses plying from Delhi to Manali. The Bus takes 16 hours approximately to reach to Manali. Rates vary depending on the operator but will be approximately 700 to 900 for a Non Ac Coach and 900 to 1200 Rs per person fpor an AC Coach. Check these website :
http://www.volvobusesindia.com/
3. You can also hire a private Taxi / Indica / Innova etc though I do not recommend this as Volvo Busses are equally good. The only advantage with Taxis is that you can Travel early in the morning say 4 AM and reach by 9 PM thus you do a major part to travelling in daylight and that you can stop in between as per your convenience.
Safest that I recommend is Flights .
B. Weather
1. Weather should cold - but pleasant.
All 4 resorts that you have shortlisted are good. I also recommend Highland Park Manali. Very good. I have personally stayed there. Service is a slight issue but else you will enjoy. I recomend that you check tourist reviews on Tripadvisor website.
http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotels-g2976 ... otels.html
If you have to select out the four listed by you - I would recommned Manu Allaya Resort
D. Sight Seeing
The hotel where you stay will arrange everything for you. The auto rickshaws at the main market road are hooligans and if budget is not a constraint - arrange for an Indica for travel thru the hotel. It may cost you a little more but you will not have to spend haggling.

Hi,
Manali is a superb place to spend holidays.
The best way to go Manali from Delhi is by air. Otherwise u can travel by Volvo bus from Delhi, but remember to choose only HPTDC's volvo bus, other volvo bus services usually delays from time and they pickup ppl from road.
The resort u shortlisted are just fine, but Solang Valley resort is far from the main town. U can think about Snow valley resort too..their service and other stuffs are good.
Yes, Hotel will arrange all the sight seeing programs. Or, u can take package that includes hotel, sight seeing and meal. I have taken such package of Snow valley resort from Bangladesh, where - Volvo bus (Delhi-Manali-Delhi), the suit, breakfast , dinner and all the sight seeing(individual car) was included. U can choose such Volvo packages of other resorts too.
Hope it will help.

Dear Chithra - Since you have a two year old little darling, I would suggest that you defer your visit since Feb., will be too cold for her. It will be better if you travel either by Air or by private taxi as having your own conveyance will be beneficial as you can stop at any place you feel like due to travel sickness or tiring journey and since you have little one, this mode will be more convenient.
Thanks and regards

Hi Chithra
Commuting from Delhi by Air is the best if it suits your budget otherwise HPTDC operated Volvo buses are pretty comfortable. We took it on our way back from Manali to Delhi.
Regarding places to stay, the resorts that you have mentioned are great but I would also recommend you to check out Casa Bella . We enjoyed this resort thoroughly.
The following two links provide my feedback about this resort:

Hi Chitra,
I think Pinesh has given you all the information required,
i would say the time that you are travelling is fantastic as the weather there is very good at that time so that your child will not have a problem.
the only thing i would add is the hotels:
i had stayed in Snow valley resort and i recommend that as it has a good locale and the food is also good there.
also manali inn is a good hotel
