Kerala Tour

Posted by PR | Sat Apr 21, 2012 2:14 pm

Hello Friends/avid travellers
I am planning a family trip to Kerala in the 1st week of June during summer holdays for about 5-6 days, from Calcutta. Pls advice, from your experience, what will be best places to visit during that time. I want to have a ralaxing holiday...not in mood to do rushing presense in all places just for the sake of it. I gather from several travel portals that Cochin is the place to start with.

Your valuable feedbacks is eagerly awaited.

You can design your tour as follows

1. Cochin (Two 2 Days)
2. Pristine Island reosrt (20km) (One Day)
Resort is 20 km from cochin on small Island on very nice lake
good place to relax
3. Allappye (Backwaters) (Two Days) 45 Km. from pristine
just leisure boating on backwaters no other specific site
seeing)
If days permit
4. Munnar (2 Days) (200 kms from alappey)
Nice Hill station to recharge
(Possibility of rain in 1st week of june)
OR
4. Thekkady (150 kms from alapey) (Periyar National park)

I would bet on munnar. You could comfortably have a 3 to 4 days stay out there. If your health permits, you could rent a cycle and move around, which is what i did. Affordable and very relaxing... do visit the tea plantations. Shop around for freshly harvested tea...There's one really big wholesale dealer who sells a lot of things from tea to handmade soaps, which is worth a visit. Don't recollect the name though... it's bang in the market area.
Had also been on a Jungle trek while there.
Thekkady does not have much to see actually. Place to visit the spice gardens there.
Periyar sanctuary.
Allepey backwaters... little pricey though. The backwaters trip is the same all over Kerala actually. YOu could fish a better deal in other areas, I reckon. Hope that helps?
bear in mind that June=rains in Kerala.

Mr. PR,
You can start your tour for Kerala either from Kochi or from Thiruvanantpuram. You will have to check if the flights for both these cities from Kolkata are available. If you start from Thiruvanantpuram, you can go to Kovalam , Kanyakumari, Kumarakom, Thekkady, Munnar, Alleppy and Kochi. All these places are good to visit, but you can select some of them depending on time available with you. Yes I can recommend Kovalam, Thekkady Munnar and of course Alleppy. If you like, I can give you you the names of some hotels where I stayed.Yes, keep in mind that monsoon reaches Kerala coast in the first week of June, if it is on right time. Happy journey.
