Ellora caves are UNESCO World Heritage Site, about 30 km from aurangabad. The 34 caves of Ellora displays the ultimate supremacy in rock-cut architecture. Built between 5th. and 10th. century during the Rashtrakuy dynasty, Ellora, auctally excavted out of the vertical face of Charanandri Hills has Budhist caves (1-12), Hindu caves (13-29) and Jain caves (30-34).
Ajanta caves, also UNESCO World Heritage Site are 29 rock-cut caves dating from 2nd. century B.C. to 6th. century, considered the masterpiece of painting depicts the Buddhist philosopy (tales of Jataka).Paintings can be found everywhere inside the caves except the floors. Although, many painting have eroded due to elapse of time and human interference, whatever remains are enough to make you stare with awe. It is about 104 km from Aurangabad, the nearest airport and nearest rail station is Jalgaon (59 km).
Aurangabad has also many offerings for tourists. As the name suggests, it was a dream city founded by Emperor Aurangazeb in 1610. It is well connected by air (Chikalthana Airport), rail and road network.
Daulatabad (13 km away is a 12th. century fortress)...Bibi ka Maqbara (a replica of Taj Mahal built in 1679 by Autangazeb's son in memory of his mother Begum Rabia Durani)...Panchakki (17th. century water mill)...Aurangabad Caves ( 9 caves dating back to 2nd. century)...Soneri Mahal...Pitalkhora (78 km from Aurangabad has 13 cave monateries dating back to 2nd. century B.C)...Siddharth Garden (garden, aquarium and zoo).
I guess you can keep 1 day for Ajanta, 1 day for Ellora, 1 day for Aurangabad itself and if you wish, 1 day for leisure. Ideally 3N would be sufficient.
