Hi Anil,
Wynad is the most beautiful but the least explored destination of Kerala.Wayanad, the green paradise is nestled among the mountains of the Western Ghats, forming the border world of the greener part of Kerala. Clean and pristine, enchanting and hypnotizing, this land is filled with history and culture.
You may need 4 days & 3 Nights to Enjoy the Charm of Wynad very leisurely. You can stay in Wythiri which boasts of an excellent climate have a few high end resorts like Wythiri Resort or Wythiri Village(Rs:8000+).Rain County resort located near by is another option(Rs;5000+)
You may stay in Kalpetta, centrally located as well as the capital of Wynad. There you can get budget properties(3500 Range). But my vote go for plantation Resorts located at the bottom of Chembra Peak, which give you breath taking glimpses of the ever green forest & plantations of Wynad.Another option is Banasura lake resort situated at Padinjarethara a little bit away from Kalpetta. But if you want to stay in a calm place, try Agraharam resorts at Tirunelli(65Kms away from Kalpetta).Meenmutty heights at Meenmutty is also a good place to stay. But these places are a little bit far off.
These are a few sights of Wynad:
Edakkal Cave: This location of breathtaking beauty is three kilometres from Ambalavayal which is 25 kilometres from Kalpetta. The rock wall contains some interesting carvings, which represent human and animal figures and objects of human use and symbols. These carvings speak of a highly civilized people of pre-historic age (4000 BC).Edakkal rock engravings stand out distinct among the magnitude of prehistoric visual archives of paintings and graphic signs all over the world. It is the world's richest pictographic gallery of its kind.
Kuruva Island: The Kuruva island, 950 acres of ever green forest on the tributaries of east flowing river Kabani, is an ideal picnic spot, far away from the disturbances of city life. The island is uninhabited. Rare species of birds, orchids and herbs are the sovereigns of this supernal kingdom.
Lakkidi: One of the highest locations in Wayanad, Lakkidi also commands a picturesque scenery. Lakkidi, the gate way of Wayanad, lies atop Thamarassery, a ghat pass at an elevation of 700 m. above mean sea level. The lofty mountain peaks, the gurging stream, luxuriant vegetation and the bird's eye view of the deep valley on the south, with its winding roads, are breath taking.
Muthanga Wild Life Sanctuary: Muthanga, Which is 16 kms. east of Sulthan Bathery, is located very near to the Karnadaka border. the biggest abode of wild animals in Malabar. Elephant, spotted deer, bison, tiger, cheeta, wild bear, etc. are found in this sanctuary. The forest Department has facilities for providing elephant rides to tourists, here.
Pookot Lake: It is a natural fresh water lake, brimmed with ever green mountains. The weather here is salacious; the scenic beauty, hypnotising and the nature, unspoiled. The lake has an area of 8.5ha. and the maximum water depth is 6.5mtrs.
Soochippara Waterfalls: The waterfalls at Soochippara near Meppadi is really a treasure of nature, yet to be discovered. The stretches of waterfalls ranging at places from 100 to 300 feet height is a treat to the eyes. The pool below, provides for water rafting, swimming, bathing, etc. The tree top huts at Soochippara give an unique view of the valleys of the Western Ghats and the glimmering shallow waters of the surrounding springs.
Banasura sagar Dam: This is the largest earth dam in India. The topography here is such that many islands will be formed in the upstream of the dam when the dam is full. These islands with the background of the Banasura hill will provide a hypnotising sight to tourists.
Thirunelly Temple: It is known as 'Thekkan Kasi', of Kerala. It is believed, that a dip in the river Papanasini, running crystal clear down hill, wipes one off all sins. Thirunelly is 30 kms. north-east of Manathavady
Pazhassi Memorial: The body of Veera Pazhassi, the Lion of Kerala who organised a guerilla war against the British East Indian Company is buried at Mananthavady, which is 32 km north east of Kalpetta
These are a few prominent tourists spots of Wynad which one has to do only a soft trekk. If you are interested in trekking, you can try Meenmutty falls,Chembra Peak & Pakshipaathalam,The forest department & DTPC will provide you all the helps for trekking.
I hope this will be enough for you .If you need any further assistance regarding the information or hotel booking please feel free to contact me by mail to [Moderator-This email id is hidden. Click here to send a message to this user.]

The best resort to stay is the Green magic which is about 9,500 above the level.. I stayed there and this is 6 KM up hill from Vythiri Resorts. For other details refer other posts.

Hi
All the resorts mentioned by other travelers are good. But try also Planet Green in kalpetta. I had gone there two times and it was always good. The price is almost half of what other resorts offer (3000 range) and the facilities are at par. Why to waste more money.Try it www dot planetgreenresorts dot com
all the best for the trip
