I am looking at a destination close to Chennai for wildlife and trekking. I came across Madhumalai - is it a nice place to trek and see wildlife? Can u suggest any other place around Chennai for a weekend with my wife?
Hai, First of all madumalai is really far from chennai, but is near from bangalore, on the bangalore ooty route, the place is really good with wild life safaris and trekking places. Near chennai there is no wildlife places for u but there are some beaches and temples if u are interested
Hi, Madhumalai is quite a distance from Chennai (both via Coimbatore or via Bangalore). There must be some place close to Chennai. I can think of the Yelagiri Hills or even Yercaud, for that matter. Of course there is no wildlife in these places.
Depends on the amount of time you have to spare for this holiday. You can catch a Satabthi leaving Chennai at 6am and reaching Mysore at around 1pm. From Mysore, Madumulai is only 2 ½ hours by road. It is well connected by Bus or you can hire a CAB.
There are resorts like BearMountain, Jungle Retreat, WildCanopyReserve, JungleHut and array of good places which can offer you good packages to cater to your needs.
I would suggest 3 to 4 days holiday if you are heading to Madumulai. Though you could just spend one night in which case, you leave Saturday Morning from Chennai and you are back in Chennai on Sunday Evening. You would still get to spend about 15hours at your resort. However, if you could squeeze in two nights more then you are bound to enjoy.
Driving down, would be very taxing, take the train and Satabti is a good option.
I think you should give it a shot and have a good time and book fast if you are plan to spend your time here. These resorts get overbooked by the party junkies who wish to leave the city hustle ‘n’ bustle and party in the forest under the starry sky.
