am planning to go to Kodai in Feb,I want to know (1)which is the best time to visit Kodai (2)The places that can be covered by a 2-day,1-night stay (3)The total cost for a 2-days,1-night stay(package of food and travel)
Kodai is a lovely place to visit and i am sure in Feb, the weather wud be fabulous. To my knowledge, its not really peak season, so u wont have a prob getting accomodation. For places to stay try out the 2 Sterling Resorts properties..am sure they wud rent out a room to u for a reasonable tariff. (Check with their office in Chennai prior to your visit) Else, u cud just land there and look around as there are so many hotels available. Try to get something away from the town center, as its too crowded and noisy ! Have fun..and dont forget to gorge on the home made chocolates.. Cheers...
Hi Venu Reg places of stay u can check out Hotel Jai (apart from others), as its one of the more popular hotels in town. Reg places of interest, of course u have the lake to go boating, then take walks around the lake - wonderful walkway, i understand the hotels wud also be able to give u local sighseeing packages to suit ur budget. Have u checked the insides of HolidayIQ.com...i am sure u wud get lotsa useful info there ? Cheers
February will still be very cold at night and early morning, evening so take warm clothes or buy some cheap warm clothes there from the local roadside vendors. Choose a hotel near the lake, in Feb all hotels give 50% off season discount. The lake is much nicer than the other areas. Do walk, cycle or horseride around the lake at least once. You can also go boating if you prefer. Go to Bryant Park along the lakeside, exit from the top end and do the Coakers Walk circuit. You can rent a taxi (bargain hard) for sightseeing to Suicide Pt, Pillars Rock, Guna Caves, Moyers Pt and Kurinji Andavar Temple. Tip: Walk about 100m ahead of the 1st 4 points, cut through the forest and you will get the same or better views without other littering tourists. If you are so inclined you can also walk to Pillars Rock area it is a nice walk, not tiring in the fresh cold weather. Do walk to Dolphins Nose via TV tower, La Salette church, Pambar shola and Vattakanal. Wear thick soled walking shoes. You can do all these sights in 2 days but it would be rushed. Ideally one should spend a week in Kodai to really relax and enjoy the place. You can buy home made chocolates in the market, and excellent Kodai cheese, peanut butter and jams. Hotels in off season should be around Rs 1500/- double - lakeside; Rs 600/- and above elsewhere. TTDC offers best value but unfortunately not best location. Check out tamilnadutourism.org
