I am getting into a confusion as to decide which one of the 2 is best? Altitude wise Mahabaleshwar is better since the climate would be pleasant but Matheran may also be better for pollution free exploration. Price is not a issue for me, I want to enjoy my honeymoon in the most privacy. Which one would be less crowded and will it be safe?

If it is privacy you want then Matheran is the place for you. Additionally, there will be less pollution as no vehicular traffic allowed whereas Mahabaleshwar is usually crowded and lots of traffic too. Not very sure about the difference in elevation between the 2 places but Matheran is the place you go to to have a quiet, relaxing and private holiday.

WELL, I CAN UNDERSTAND YOUR CONFUSION AS BOTH ARE GOOD HILL STATIONS.HOWEVER, I PERSONALLY FEEL MAHABLESHWAR WOULD BE A BETTER CHOICE BECAUSE THE CLIMATE IS BETTER, YOU CAN ENJOY PRIVACY IN A GOOD HOTEL, CAN HAVE NICE TIME TOGETHER VISITING VERY GOOD VIEW POINTS ,INCLUDING BOATING - ALL EASILY APPROACHABLE BY CAR/TAXY. AFTERALL, A HONEYMOON IS NOT JUST BEING LOCKED IN A ROOM, BUT ALSO TO SPEND QUALITY TIME TOGETHER IN COOL ATMOSHPHERE AND A SAFE PLACE. MAHABLESHWAR CAN GIVE YOU LOT OF CHOICES TO SPEND YOUR TIME BLISSFULLY TOGETHER.
MATHERAN IS A VERY SMALL PLACE, NO TRANSPORT EXCEPT WALKING OR RIDING HORSES WITH RED DUST COVERING YOU UP AND A WARM ATMOSHPHERE.WELL MAKE YOUR CHOICE-BOTH TOGETHER.

See my reply to your Matheran query. Yes, both places are absolutely safe. But both places will have power cuts. Crowded depends on when you go. As I mentioned earlier from 1 April onwards both places are packed. And needless to say, Tamil Nadu has far superior hill stations !! But it is nice to see someone from TN wanting to visit M'war and Matheran. Matheran is unique as no motor vehicles are allowed, and is also very densely forested with lots of trails. Look out for the giant squirrels in the forest tree tops, they are different to the giant squirrels in TN. If you go to Matheran, do enjoy a veg thali meal at Diwadkars opposite the rly station, its nice and spicy being a mix of Maharashtrian and Punjabi food, very fresh, exceedingly tasty and excellent value for money. Much better than the Gujarati thalis which tend to be sweetish.

For your best Honeymoon I would strogly recommend Mahableshwar as compare to Matheran. As someone has rightly said honeymoon is not just that the couple is left locked in the room. But a couple needs a free fresh natural environment too. Matheran is full of dust and after a "hard night" how much can you walk? You need some good conveyance to take you arround. So all those luxries are available easily at Mahableshwar. So your best bet will be mahableshwar and let me wish you a very hapy and colorful honeymoon.

Honey moon is once in a lifetime, so the location should be appropriate, not Matheran or Mahabaleshwar.

In terms of privacy Matheran would be ideal as Mahabaleshwar is a bit crowded. In fact even Matheran may come across as crowded but it has its own pockets of privacy and contentment. You could stay at the Verandah which is a beautiful place and cut off from the world. At the end of the day, its irrespective of the location coz all you have do is just be oblivious to the world.
