Manali best in September or December? views please.. Q&A

Hi All,

Please suggest if Manali is best seen in Sep or Dec (for a couple)? we have a small confusion, as we think we have less chance to see snow during Sep. on the other side, we are concerned of seeing only snow and not many places as roads may get blocked, specially Rohtang pass, in Dec. Please share your views for the same. Any case we are going to stay in the club mahindra resort @ manali.

as 4 me, prefer dec ! thats t best time 2 enjoy snow.. n if at all u come across snow fall.. its ultimate ! i hv bn there in dec 4 times n never come across road blocks, yes of course, if u get snow in manali itself u wont b travelling to rohtang.

December is the best time to visit Manali, comared to September. Vijay

Hi Indira,
Different times means different things to see, different flavours of the same place.

A December visit will get you some snow in Manali but Rohtang would be out of bounds (in fact you would be advised to turn back around 20-30kms. before Rohtang itself). Sightseeing would cover Kullu, Manikaran, Angora rabbits farm, Shawl factory, Naggar (castle), Jagatsukh, Solang Valley, Nehru Kund, Kothi, Rahla Falls and Marrhi. Also, there are no road blocks due to weather till Manali throughout the year.

In Sept, there would not be any snow in Manali. However, you would be compensated by it by visiting Rohtang Pass and enjoying the snow there. In addition, all the sightseeing of Dec. would still hold good.

So depends on what you want to see.

Hi Himanshu, thanks for your views, we may want to travel in Sep, coz we get to see some snow plus, local sight seeing. Please suggest about the cab fares. The hotel in Shimla says they offer pick up and drop and charge Alto 450/- Qualis 800/- Innova 900/- one way!!! In that case, we cant afford to take chance and travel by bus and spend such huge amounts, wild guess, for all transfers min 3500 and then local sight seeing for min 1500 a day for atleast 3 days, and then bus charges from shimla to manali!! all come to 9800 plus the discomfort of taking baggage to and fro the bus and finding a taxi for 4 times.

Please tell me the actual reasonable price for which one can find a taxi for 5 days from shimla to manali, as per my below itinerary!

Chennai to Delhi flight: 0625 to 0900

Any sightseeing possible between the flight arrival and below train boarding?

Board the Hwh Dli Klk Mai 2140 0440 from Delhi to Kalka

15th Sep 09, Tuesday:

Board the Shivalk Dlx Exp 0530 1015 from Kalka to Shimla

Check in to the club Mahindra resort @ Shimla for one night.

Sightseeing for rest of the day, suggestions please..

16th Sep 09, Wednesday:

Checkout of the resort & sight seeing for rest of the day (suggestions please)

Take night bus from Shimla to Manali

17th Sep 09, Thursday:

Check into the Manali resort

18th Sep 09, Friday:

Sight seeing - Suggestions please..

19th Sep 09, Saturday:

Checkout of Manali resort

sight seeing for rest of the day until 5 pm (suggestions please)

Take evening bus from Manali to Delhi

20th Sep 09, Sunday:

Return flight: 1915 to 2155 jet lite from Delhi to Chennai.

DECEMBER FOR A COUPLE.
Most people want to see snow & enjoy it. It does not matter if snow is in Rohatang or 30 kms before it. You may not get 'activities on snow' that being off-season.
You may be lucky to enjoy snow fall-the cherry on the cake.
