Im planning to visti Manali in January 2008, can some one help me in getting information on how to book bus tickets to travel from Manali to Shimla. it would be great if you can also provide the schedule of busses that leave from Manali to Shimla, hours required for the journey and cost per head.

There are regular buses operated by Himachal Tourism between Manali and Shimla. Though I will not be able to throw any light on the schedule, it is quite frequent and you could check with the HP Tourism offices - they should be able to help you out. They operate semi-luxury and regular buses.

i am from Bangalore, so can the bus tickets be booked after reaching Manali or should it be booked in advance. does the HP tourism have a website where i can make advance bookings?

As far as I am aware, you cannot book bus tickets online. Buses are fairly frequent and you should be able to book your seat(s) in advance a day prior to the journey. The Bus stand is pretty close to the market, so you should have no trouble legging it and getting it done.

There are also a numbe rof private operators and I do not think you will have any problems getting tickets.

HP Tourism has a website. It is probably himachaltourism.org. You may get their office addresses at major cities from the website and book your Volvo tickets (Delhi-Manali-Delhi) from their booking office/authorised travel agent in your city itself. Their bus leaves from a road adjacent to Janpath at New Delhi which is a central location. But the HPTDC Volvos are not that well maintained. There are other operators like Himachal Roadways and private operators who run Volvo buses to Manali. The buses of the private operators appear in much better shape, as we saw them at Manali. If you have anyone living at Delhi you may try to take their help in this matter. Otherwise bank on HPTDC.

I am in bangalore. If you are going to mnali and fromthere toshimla it will be better to take
a cab if you are four people.
if you are even three people the cost is slightly higher. because on the way you can see
mandi and few other places also.

the best thing is to go to kulu stay there for one or two days and from there to go to manali and from ther to shimla via kulu.

Hi I'm Bharath from Chennai. From my trip to Manali and Shimla in 2004 the best way to get a bust ticket is to go to the Himachal Tousirm Office near the market in Manali. You can book in advance or take a chance a day ahead or on the same day.
As far as I remember there was only one service between Manali and Shimla and vice versa. However I've given below some internet links in various cities of other states as well as that of Himachal Tourism.
