hi,
i did travel with my husband and a child 4 years back. our budget was 10-15 k. we travelled to nepal. it was awsome.we traveled during christmas to new years. i think your budget is perfect. travel till gorakhpur by train, then from there youcan creach the border by bus, or cab.we went to kathmandu and stayed at hotel Kamal. good place, nice comforatble rooms, good discounts during this time, practically 0-60% off. we took a double room then in 350 per night inspite the tarrifs being 1200 inr.he gave the others in 600 inr.so bargain as much as you can. yougan go to kathmandu by air or bus. 8 hours by bus.
do vist lumbini if you love peace and nature.you can visit the entire nepal in your budget lavishly if youo in off seasons like december. Our bad luck was that the border was closed for two days due to some mauwadi problems, we had to stay back in gorakhpur for two days.

have a nice trip.

Within this bidget I suggest you visit Srilanka; Its a fantastic value for miney.
With a little more budget you can visit Singapore or Maysia ( watchout for the airlines deal that often comes in news paper ).
If you consider Bhutan a foreign country ( which it actually is ! ), you can well spend more than a week with this amount. Natural beauty of Bhutan is undoubtedly is one of the best in the world.
Another option is you can visit many countries which will cost you more than your budget, but you don't pay the whole amouint immediately but in instalments over a period. Check with Travelagents like, Cox & Kings, Thomas Cook etc. for such offers.

Most places in South East Asia can be done within this budget- if you plan well- also Sri Lanka, Maldives, Nepal, Bhutan are all excellent choices.

I recently checked Cox and Kings India and i found amazing offers to Thailand singapore within 30k. I have to contact them as I dont know if it includes airfares. My friend recently went to thailand in 10k inclusive or airfare. The problem for you is that now is season time. As it is winter all the western tourist visit these places. If you want to travel after march you will get great offers for these tropical places.
Bhutan is well within 30k.
