Srinagar or shimla?

Hi. I m planning a trip to vaishno devi. Please tell me where to go after trip to vaishno devi. I think shimla or srinagar will be good place. So please suggest me which is better and how many days should i spend there.

Hi,in my opinion come back from Vaishno devi upto Pathankot and take a train to Visit Dalhausie,Chamba and Khajjiar

After returning from Maa Vaishno Devi, you may go either to Shimla or dalhousie. Dalhousie you can spend three days and at Shimla you may spend four five days.

Srinagar would be a better option in terms of travel, since you can take a bus 49 kms back to Jammu & then proceed to Srinagar (297 kms) from there. I presume the road for Katra parts mid way on the road to Srinagar. Hence there could be direct services also from Katra, which you may have to check locally. You can halt there for 3 / 4 Nights & cover Gulmarg, Pahalgam, local sightseeing & shikara sight seeing.

There would be no direct bus from Katra to Shimla & if you do not have your own vehicle, you would have to reach Pathankot first, change the bus. You may get a bus to Dalhousie OR Mandi from where you would have to change the bus again for Shimla.

Even car hire would be difficult since they would not allow tourist car to cross the state borders. Hence my choice would be Srinagar.

I recommend that keeping Pathankot as your base the best place to visit is Dalhousie, Chamba, Khajjiar they are all quite hill stations far from the madding crowd.
Srinagar you can think if you have the budget, time & are fit to travel firstly by road.....a very long journey to Srinagar & then travel all across the valley and to Pahalgam & Gulmurg.

Pahalgam Gulmurg patnitop is good option more over shimla is in opposite direction and weather is too hot during this summer july/aug would be rainy.

i suggest Pahalgam Gulmurg patnitop after your vaishno devi trip
