Where can you take your children on holiday to make sure they have a fun time?
Greetings for 2010!
Planning a holiday is often confusing if you are travelling with children. Will the kids have fun? Is there enough sightseeing to keep them busy or will they soon be bored? Can the holiday be educational? And more importantly, is the place safe?
As usual, HolidayIQ members have shared their suggestions and experiences for planning a holiday around what children want.

CITY OR NATURE? WILDLIFE OR BEACHES?
|
"Kids enjoy something that has got colour, and adventure," says Anup. Wildlife holidays where one can go on safaris and find animals normally seen only in books is a big hit with the youngsters. Vacationers say that trying out hiking, camping, or nature watching without the distractions of television, could bring the family closer.
Equally fun are beach holidays at places like Goa, Kerala, Ganapatipule, etc, especially if the children enjoy water activities.
Other parents vouch for trips to forts and palaces, a tour that will take the children to the places they might have studied about at school. Nanhie says, "Believe me, Rajasthan is the place they will love - the land of maharajas, forts, palaces, deserts, vibrant colours, elephants, peacocks, folk music, and dance!"

RESORT WITH GOOD FACILITIES
However, some feel that the location is not that important. "Kids will go anywhere because they find adventures on their own!" says Lucifer, "What is more important is a good hotel that has a big area to play/activity centre." Lucifer adds, "Let's face it - you are likely to spend the maximum amount of time in a hotel and will perhaps only spend 5-6 hours sightseeing. Makes sense to have the tireless members of the family enjoying themselves on their own!" So where would you go on a holiday with your kids? Let us know what you think! |

City attractions for the kids - Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh
|
There are more activities and sights in the cities to keep children occupied. HolidayIQ members think that one such city where the children are sure to have fun is Hyderabad, the capital of the state of Andhra Pradesh. Utpal, Mumbai suggests: "You can spend 2 days in Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad. It is packed with action and drama! Kids can also enjoy Hyderabad city - there's the Snow World, Laser Show, and Lumubini park. The family can also enjoy para cycling in Nagarjun Sagar Lake.
Besides these, visit the Charminar and the Golkonda Fort to get a taste of history and culture, and the Nehru Zoological Park for a slice of wildlife. The museums at Hyderabad also display some fascinating clocks and doll houses that the youngsters will find interesting.

Cruise with the family - Andaman Islands
| | Pic: Sanju, Vishakapatnam |
|
Not just the kids, but the whole family will probably be thrilled at the idea of heading to the beautiful islands and beaches of the Andaman Islands. At least that's what our members say! The holiday will be more exciting if you decide to travel by sea, on one of the cruise ships that leave from the mainland.
Chandan from Raiganj says that the children will enjoy the beaches, and the chance to scuba dive to see the coral. They will also get the chance to meet the Jarawa people of the Andamans, and be exposed to a unique culture.
The children can also see their history books come alive at Andamans, with a visit to Cellular Jail, a place that played an important role in India's freedom struggle.
