Goa - A dream come true

Goa – A dream come true
Aashima Bhalla, a HolidayIQ-er from Faridabad, tells more on how her dream came true!

One of my long term dreams was to visit Goa. I have always fantasized of going to a place where sands and beaches are in abundance; a place to enjoy the natural beauty, scenery created by God. Goa seems to fulfil my dream. Located on the western coast of the country, Goa has Arabian Sea to one of its sides. The other faces comprise Maharashtra in the north and Karnataka in the south and east. Together with the coastal stretches of these states, Goa is part of a larger cultural region known as Konkan. Northern Goa is more populated and urban, while the south is more forested. Beaches apart, rice fields and coconut plantations dominate the landscape.

A visit at last

We visited Goa this April. If you land on Goa, you shall be amazed to find so many hotels and resorts in this place. The sheer variety caters to all forms of budgetary needs. We checked on HolidayIQ for a list of popular hotels in Goa. Most of the hotels had good reviews, and travellers who visited those hotels were thoroughly pleased. Virtually all of the recommendations were for booking in advance, but as we visited during the off peak season, so we decided not to. In the end, we stayed in
Ronil Royale, which is near to the famous Calangute beach.

We booked our flight on Spice jet, the journey was comfortable and it took us nearly 2 hrs 15 min to reach Goa from Delhi.

7 popular beaches in Goa

Calangute Beach:
Between the beaches of Baga and Candolim lies the 4 mile long Queen of Beaches, Calangute. The most happening beach of Goa, you will find everything here great food, shopping, entertainment and a wide choice of accommodation.

Baga Beach:
Baga beach in Goa lies 10 km west of Mapusa town and is an extension of Calangute beach. It offers the perfect escape for those looking for peace and quite unlike the larger beaches in Goa. Essentially, Baga is a fishing beach and its russet sands are now a top draw among tourists for sun-bathing and water sports.

Arambol Beach:
Located in north Goa, about 32-km northwest of Mapusa, Arambol is also known as Harmal in the local language and has been attracting travellers for years because of its remote location and prominent headland with beautiful rocky bays.

Anjuna Beach:
It is one of the most popular beaches in Goa situated 8 km west of Mapusa and 18 km from the capital Panaji. It has an unusual arrangement of red lateritic rocks, spread across the white sands, known as the Jewel of Anjuna or Ozran.

Candolim Beach:
Candolim is yet another popular beach haven in North Goa, located to the south of Calangute. A seven kilometre long stretch of sun kissed sands, starting from Aguada and ending at Chapora beach, greets you when you visit Candolim.

Colva Beach:
Colva beach in the village of Colva was known as a retreat for the elites during the colonial days. It is now the second-most popular beach in Margao, Goa (after Calangute).

Palolem Beach:
Palolem, in south Goa, is a largely unspoiled beach inhabited by local fishermen and quiet tourists. This crescent-shaped beach is about a mile long with rocks jutting out into the sea on either ends of the beach.

  A Bagful of tips

:: Include sightseeing in your package, because exploring places on your own in Goa is a little difficult since the places are quiet far off. We went to Mecky's Saturday night bazaar, but were not really interested in shopping as most of the items are available here in Faridabad at a much cheaper rate.

:: Activities like paragliding, banana ride, wave runner are real fun; the only condition is that you should know swimming and not be afraid of water.

:: In Goa, you should not leave your hotel without applying sunscreen otherwise the skin will get badly burnt afterwards.
